Occasional discomfort in the lower right side of the body?

Hello doctor, I have recently been feeling a strange sensation in my lower right abdomen.
It's a slight pain (which is not noticeable unless I pay attention to it), but it's not very painful, and it seems to be located near the pelvic area.
I suspect that I might have injured the nearby muscles or ligaments during exercise, but I'm not sure what organs are in that area.
Could you please tell me what this issue might be? Or am I just worrying myself? Additionally, I previously experienced a tingling sensation in my body, but it didn't last for a whole day; it was intermittent.
Could you explain why I might be experiencing this tingling sensation?

Ning, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2018/02/21

When experiencing occasional discomfort in the lower right abdomen, it is essential to consider various potential causes and their implications. The abdomen is home to several vital organs, including parts of the intestines, the appendix, and reproductive organs in females, which can all contribute to pain or discomfort in this area.
Given your description of a mild, intermittent pain that is not particularly bothersome, it may be related to several benign conditions. One possibility is muscular strain, especially if you have recently engaged in physical activity or exercise. Strains can occur in the abdominal muscles or even in the lower back, leading to discomfort that may be felt in the abdominal region. If the pain is related to muscle strain, it is often exacerbated by movement or certain positions but tends to improve with rest.

Another consideration is gastrointestinal issues. Conditions such as gas, constipation, or mild digestive disturbances can lead to discomfort in the lower abdomen. If you have experienced changes in your bowel habits or diet, this could be a contributing factor.
In females, it is also important to consider gynecological factors. Conditions such as ovarian cysts or menstrual-related discomfort can manifest as pain in the lower abdomen. If you are menstruating or nearing your menstrual cycle, hormonal changes can lead to cramping or discomfort in this area.

The sensation of "tingling" or "numbness" that you mentioned could be related to nerve irritation or compression. This can occur due to various reasons, including posture, muscle tension, or even anxiety. If the tingling sensation is fleeting and not accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it may not be a cause for alarm. However, if it persists or worsens, it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation.

While your symptoms may not currently seem severe, it is crucial to monitor them closely. If you experience any of the following red flags, you should seek medical attention promptly:
1. Severe or worsening pain: If the discomfort escalates or becomes unbearable.

2. Fever: A fever may indicate an infection or other serious condition.

3. Changes in bowel habits: Such as persistent diarrhea or constipation, especially if accompanied by blood.

4. Nausea or vomiting: These symptoms can indicate a more serious gastrointestinal issue.

5. Unexplained weight loss: This could signal an underlying health concern.

In conclusion, while your symptoms may be benign, it is essential to remain vigilant and consult a healthcare provider if your discomfort persists or worsens. A thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly imaging studies, may be necessary to rule out any serious conditions. Remember that your health is paramount, and seeking professional advice is always a wise decision when in doubt.
