Shaving pubic hair can lead to bleeding from the foreskin?
Hello, doctor.
Recently, I had to undergo a muscle ultrasound, and last night while using an electric shaver to groom my pubic hair, I accidentally nicked the foreskin slightly to the right of the middle of the penis (there was a small visible blood vessel underneath), causing a little bit of bleeding.
After wiping it with tissue, the bleeding stopped immediately, and upon visual inspection, there were no signs of bruising on the penis, nor did I notice any blood in my urine when using the restroom.
It seems similar to a minor abrasion.
Later, I applied a wound ointment that I previously bought in Japan, which contains Chlorhexidine gluconate as an antibacterial agent, to the injured area.
I would like to ask if this treatment is sufficient.
Will there be any long-term effects after healing? I usually handle minor cuts and bleeding on my hands and feet this way, but since this area is more sensitive and has a small blood vessel running through it, I wanted to be more cautious and ask.
Thank you for your response.

Hello: For a small wound, it is important to keep it clean and dry, and avoid contact with water until it is fully healed.
Of course, any wound will result in a scar, but the visibility of the scar can vary.
As for ointments, I cannot provide an answer due to lack of experience with them.

When managing minor cuts on sensitive areas such as the penis, it is essential to take appropriate precautions to ensure proper healing and prevent infection. In your case, it sounds like you experienced a minor cut while grooming, which is not uncommon. Here are some safety tips and considerations for managing such injuries:
1. Immediate Care: It is good that you addressed the bleeding immediately by applying pressure with a tissue. Since the bleeding stopped quickly and you did not notice any bruising or blood in your urine, it suggests that the injury was minor. Applying an antiseptic ointment like the one containing chlorhexidine gluconate is a suitable choice, as it helps to reduce the risk of infection.
2. Keep the Area Clean: After applying the ointment, it is crucial to keep the area clean. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that may irritate the skin. Gentle cleansing with mild soap and water is recommended. Ensure that you dry the area gently to avoid further irritation.
3. Avoid Irritation: During the healing process, try to avoid activities that may cause friction or irritation to the area, such as vigorous exercise or sexual activity. Wearing loose-fitting underwear can help minimize discomfort and allow the area to breathe.
4. Monitor for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye on the cut for any signs of infection, which may include increased redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
5. Healing and Scarring: Generally, minor cuts in sensitive areas like the penis heal well without significant complications. The skin in this area is quite resilient. However, if the cut was deep or if there was significant trauma, there could be a risk of scarring or changes in sensitivity. If you experience any unusual symptoms during the healing process, such as persistent pain or changes in sensation, consult a healthcare provider.
6. Follow-Up Care: If you have any concerns about the healing process or if the cut does not seem to improve within a few days, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a thorough examination and recommend further treatment if necessary.
7. Preventive Measures: For future grooming, consider using a guard or trimmer designed for sensitive areas to minimize the risk of cuts. Taking your time and being cautious can help prevent similar incidents.
In summary, your current management of the minor cut seems appropriate, and with proper care, it should heal without complications. Always prioritize cleanliness and monitor for any signs of infection. If you have any lingering concerns or if the situation changes, do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
