Do I have a problem?
Hello doctor, I am a first-year vocational student currently working in a factory.
Recently, I have been feeling increasingly fatigued.
Normally, standing for several hours wouldn't bother me; at most, my feet would feel a bit sore.
However, now I wake up every day feeling completely weak and find myself sleeping longer.
I constantly think about needing to rest.
I have lost interest in both work and my hobbies.
Although I feel happy when watching anime or listening to music, that feeling fades quickly, so I force myself to keep watching anime and listening to music.
However, the more I do this, the less joy I experience.
While I don’t cry all the time, I just can’t seem to feel happy.
I have to constantly push or stimulate myself to do certain things to feel even a little bit of pleasure.
Recently, I have started self-harming.
I don’t know why, but seeing my hands bleed or the scars left behind makes me feel more relaxed.
When my family found out, they just said that I lack resilience and can’t handle even a little work pressure, telling me that I am doing well and questioning what I am sad about, making it impossible for me to talk to them about anything.
Since living feels more painful than dying, I wonder if it would be better to just end it all.
I no longer know if I should continue living.
Doctor, what should I do?

To the inquiring netizen: Based on your description, it is very likely that you are experiencing mental distress related to depression.
It is recommended that you be accompanied by friends or family to visit a psychiatrist (or a psychosomatic medicine specialist) for an evaluation.
If you are willing to seek help, this condition usually improves with medication or psychotherapy.
(If accessing medical care is difficult, you may ask your school counselor or advisor to assist in communicating with your parents.) Thank you for your question.
Wishing you peace and health.
