Blood streaks or red blood when wiping after using the restroom?
Hello Doctor, since the beginning of the month, I have noticed some blood streaks or light bleeding when wiping after using the restroom.
At first, I thought it was my menstrual period, but it has continued for almost a month, occurring intermittently.
I have observed that whenever I exert myself during bowel movements, there is blood or bleeding when I wipe (I have confirmed that the bleeding is from either the vaginal or urethral opening).
Although there is bleeding, I do not experience any pain or discomfort.
What could this situation indicate about my health? If I need to see a doctor, which specialty should I consult? Thank you.

Hello, the factors causing intermenstrual bleeding are numerous, including age, environment, lifestyle, stress, emotional instability, weight changes, medications, emergency contraception, diet, polycystic ovary syndrome, uterine or cervical lesions, infections, ovulation, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, among others.
It is advisable to consult a gynecologist for examination to determine the cause and treatment.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When you notice blood streaks during wiping, especially if this has been ongoing for nearly a month, it is important to take this symptom seriously, even if you are not experiencing any pain or discomfort. Blood in the urine or vaginal bleeding can indicate a variety of underlying health issues, and while some may be benign, others could require medical attention.
In your case, since you mentioned that the blood appears when you exert yourself during bowel movements, it could be related to several potential causes. One possibility is that you may have hemorrhoids or anal fissures, which can cause bleeding during bowel movements. These conditions are often associated with straining and can lead to minor bleeding that may be mistaken for menstrual blood. However, given the duration and persistence of your symptoms, it is essential to consider other potential causes as well.
Another possibility could be related to urinary tract issues, such as a urinary tract infection (UTI) or even more serious conditions like kidney stones or bladder issues. Blood in the urine (hematuria) can sometimes occur without pain, especially in cases of infection or irritation. Additionally, if the bleeding is coming from the vaginal area, it could be related to hormonal changes, cervical issues, or other gynecological conditions.
Given the complexity of your symptoms, it is advisable to seek medical attention. You should consider scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider who specializes in either gynecology or urology, depending on where the bleeding seems to originate. A gynecologist can evaluate any potential issues related to the reproductive system, while a urologist can assess urinary tract health.
During your visit, the doctor will likely conduct a thorough medical history and physical examination. They may also recommend diagnostic tests such as a urinalysis, pelvic exam, or imaging studies to determine the cause of the bleeding. It is important to provide the doctor with as much information as possible, including the frequency and amount of bleeding, any associated symptoms, and any changes in your menstrual cycle.
In summary, while the absence of pain may provide some reassurance, the presence of blood streaks during wiping for an extended period warrants a medical evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can help address any underlying issues and prevent potential complications. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional to discuss your symptoms and get the appropriate care.
