The penis is very thin and short?

I am currently 15 years old and in the 9th grade.
I started developing pubic hair in the 7th grade, but my penis hasn't noticeably increased in size; it remains the same as when I was in elementary school.
My testicles also appear unchanged, and I am able to ejaculate.
I masturbate about four times a week.
Will this affect my development? Also, why isn't my penis growing?

Ding Ding, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2018/04/08

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: It's important to pay attention to balanced nutrition, exercise, and sleep.
The size of the genitalia is related not only to these three factors but also to genetics.
As for masturbation, there is currently no evidence to suggest that it affects development.
Focusing on balanced nutrition, exercise, and sleep is essential.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding penis growth and development during adolescence is a common concern for many teenagers. At 15 years old, you are in a critical phase of puberty, which typically occurs between the ages of 9 and 14 for boys, but can vary significantly from person to person. During this time, various physical changes occur, including the growth of pubic hair, changes in the size of the penis and testicles, and the ability to ejaculate.

1. Penis Growth: It's important to understand that penis growth can occur at different rates and times for different individuals. While some boys may experience noticeable growth in their penis size during early puberty, others may not see significant changes until later in their teenage years. The average age for boys to reach their full adult penis size is around 16 to 18 years, but some may continue to grow until their early twenties. Factors such as genetics, hormonal levels, and overall health can influence this growth.

2. Masturbation and Development: Regarding your concern about masturbation, it is a normal and healthy part of sexual development. Masturbating four times a week is generally considered normal for teenagers and is unlikely to have any negative impact on your physical development. It is a natural way for individuals to explore their bodies and understand their sexual feelings. However, if you find that it interferes with your daily life, responsibilities, or social interactions, it might be worth reflecting on your habits.

3. Why Might Your Penis Not Be Growing?: If you feel that your penis size has not changed significantly, it could be due to the timing of your individual growth spurts. As mentioned earlier, puberty progresses at different rates for everyone. Some boys may notice rapid growth in their penis size after they have started developing other secondary sexual characteristics, such as pubic hair and the ability to ejaculate. If you are still in the early stages of puberty, it is possible that you will see changes in the coming months or years.

4. When to Seek Medical Advice: If you have concerns about your growth or development, it is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional. They can provide personalized advice and reassurance. They may also assess whether your development is within the normal range for your age. In some cases, they might suggest checking your bone age, which can give insights into your growth potential.

5. Understanding Puberty: Puberty is a complex process regulated by hormones, primarily testosterone in boys. This hormone is responsible for many of the changes you are experiencing, including the growth of facial and body hair, deepening of the voice, and changes in muscle mass. The timing and extent of these changes can vary widely among individuals.

6. Conclusion: In summary, at 15 years old, you are still within the typical age range for experiencing growth and development. Your penis may still grow, and it is important to be patient during this time. Engaging in healthy habits, maintaining a balanced diet, and ensuring adequate sleep can support your overall growth and development. If you have ongoing concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider for guidance. Remember, every individual develops at their own pace, and there is a wide range of what is considered normal.
