Prepuce issues
Hello doctor, I had this issue when I was 13 years old.
When I am not erect, I can easily retract the foreskin.
However, when I am erect, the glans becomes slightly red and purplish, and it feels a bit warm.
I have to use my hand to push the foreskin back (I can push it behind the glans).
Should I consider a circumcision?

Hello: As long as the erection can subside, maintain cleanliness and no surgery is needed.

More Info
When considering whether to undergo circumcision for tight foreskin issues, it's important to evaluate several factors, including the severity of the condition, the symptoms experienced, and the potential benefits and risks associated with the procedure.
From your description, it seems that you experience tightness of the foreskin during an erection, which causes discomfort and a change in color of the glans (the head of the penis). This condition is often referred to as phimosis, which is when the foreskin cannot be easily retracted over the glans. In some cases, this can lead to pain, inflammation, or even infections.
Symptoms and Concerns
1. Discomfort and Pain: If you are experiencing pain or discomfort when trying to retract the foreskin during an erection, this is a significant symptom. Pain can indicate that the foreskin is too tight, which may lead to further complications if not addressed.
2. Color Changes: The redness and warmth you describe could suggest irritation or inflammation of the glans, which can occur if the foreskin is too tight and causes friction or pressure. This is a concern that should not be ignored, as it may lead to further complications, including infections.
3. Hygiene Issues: A tight foreskin can make it difficult to maintain proper hygiene, which can lead to the buildup of smegma (a combination of dead skin cells and oils) and increase the risk of infections.
Circumcision Considerations
Circumcision is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the foreskin. Here are some considerations to keep in mind:
1. Medical Necessity: If the tight foreskin is causing significant pain, recurrent infections, or hygiene issues, circumcision may be recommended. It is often considered a last resort after other treatments have failed.
2. Alternative Treatments: Before opting for circumcision, you might want to discuss other options with your healthcare provider. These could include topical steroid creams to help loosen the foreskin or stretching exercises that can sometimes alleviate the tightness.
3. Benefits of Circumcision: The procedure can provide relief from the symptoms you're experiencing and reduce the risk of future complications. Many men report improved comfort and hygiene after circumcision.
4. Risks of Circumcision: As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved, including bleeding, infection, and complications related to anesthesia. It's essential to weigh these risks against the potential benefits.
5. Consultation with a Specialist: It would be beneficial to consult with a urologist or a healthcare provider who specializes in male reproductive health. They can perform a thorough examination, discuss your symptoms in detail, and help you make an informed decision about whether circumcision is the right option for you.
Conclusion
In summary, if you are experiencing discomfort and other symptoms due to a tight foreskin, it is advisable to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can provide a proper assessment and discuss the best course of action, which may include circumcision or alternative treatments. Remember that your comfort and health are the top priorities, and there are options available to address your concerns.
