Concern for hematuria?
Hello, doctor.
A few days ago, I experienced hematuria after masturbation.
After about two trips to the bathroom, I no longer saw blood in my urine.
Two days later, I masturbated again, but did not ejaculate, and hematuria reappeared.
The blood in my urine lasted for about two days before it disappeared again.
In the past two days, I have also experienced lower back pain.
This has been occurring for about five days.
I have a history of kidney stones, with my last episode occurring last year.
Thank you.

Hello: Hematuria in your case is most likely due to stones or urethral bleeding.
Given the presence of back pain, there is a higher possibility of stone-related issues.
It is recommended to drink plenty of water and seek medical attention for examination at your earliest convenience.
Wishing you good health.

Blood in urine, or hematuria, can be a concerning symptom and may arise from various causes. In your case, the occurrence of blood in urine after masturbation, along with the history of kidney stones, raises several important points to consider.
Firstly, it is essential to understand that hematuria can be categorized into two types: gross hematuria, where blood is visible to the naked eye, and microscopic hematuria, where blood is only detectable under a microscope. Given your description, it seems you experienced gross hematuria, which can be alarming.
One potential cause of blood in urine after masturbation could be related to trauma or irritation of the urinary tract. During sexual arousal or masturbation, increased blood flow and pressure in the pelvic region can sometimes lead to minor injuries in the urethra or bladder, especially if there is vigorous activity. This could result in bleeding, which might explain the transient nature of your symptoms.
Another consideration is the history of kidney stones. Kidney stones can cause irritation and inflammation in the urinary tract, leading to hematuria. If you have had stones in the past, it is possible that the passage of small stones or fragments could have occurred, resulting in bleeding. The presence of back pain you mentioned could also be indicative of kidney-related issues, such as stones or even a urinary tract infection (UTI).
Infections are another common cause of hematuria. A UTI can cause inflammation and irritation of the bladder and urethra, leading to blood in the urine. Symptoms of a UTI often include a burning sensation during urination, frequent urination, and sometimes back pain. If you suspect a UTI, it is crucial to seek medical attention for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
Given that your symptoms have persisted for several days, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. A thorough evaluation, including a urinalysis and possibly imaging studies, can help determine the underlying cause of your hematuria. This is particularly important considering your history of kidney stones, as further complications could arise if stones are present or if an infection is developing.
In summary, while occasional blood in urine after masturbation may not always indicate a serious problem, the combination of your symptoms—especially the recurrence of blood and the presence of back pain—warrants a medical evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent potential complications and provide peace of mind. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to symptoms involving blood in the urine.
