Prolonged menstrual bleeding?

Hello doctor, my menstrual period has lasted over 20 days.
I have seen a doctor who said that my uterine lining is too thick, and I have been taking medication for six days.
The flow has gradually decreased, but my period has not stopped yet.
Occasionally, I feel like there are blood clots resembling uterine secretions, and sometimes I experience dizziness, fatigue, and mild cold sweats.
The medications I am taking are: 0.2 mg of "Yiru Gong" tablets, 250 mg of "Jialin" hemostatic capsules, 50 mg of "Mingde" enteric-coated tablets, and 2 mg of "Yiside" tablets.
How much longer do I need to take these medications for my period to stop? Am I actually sick?

Hello, the reasons for prolonged menstrual bleeding in middle-aged women may include hormonal imbalance, emotional factors, diet, age, and others.
However, the most important aspect is to rule out the presence of uterine tumors, endometrial hyperplasia, cervical lesions, vaginal lesions, and so on.
It is recommended that if the bleeding persists, you should consult a physician for further evaluation to obtain a definitive diagnosis, as it cannot be determined solely through a written description.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Zhang.

Prolonged menstrual bleeding, also known as menorrhagia, can be a concerning issue for many women. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, uterine abnormalities, and certain medical conditions. In your case, your doctor has indicated that the cause of your prolonged bleeding is likely due to a thickened uterine lining (endometrium). This condition can lead to excessive menstrual bleeding and may require medical intervention to manage effectively.

The medications you are currently taking, including "意如宮錠" (likely a form of hormonal therapy), "嘉林" (which may be a hemostatic agent), and "速莫炎" (possibly an anti-inflammatory or pain relief medication), are commonly prescribed to help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce bleeding. The "益斯得錠" may also be aimed at addressing hormonal imbalances. It is essential to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the duration of these medications, as they are tailored to your specific condition.

In terms of how long you may need to continue taking these medications, it can vary significantly from person to person. Some women may see improvement within a few days, while others may require several weeks of treatment. It is crucial to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider about your symptoms and any side effects you may experience. If your bleeding does not stop or if it worsens, you should return to your doctor for further evaluation.

In addition to medication, there are other treatment options available for managing prolonged menstrual bleeding. These may include:
1. Hormonal Treatments: Birth control pills or hormonal IUDs can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce the thickness of the uterine lining.

2. Surgical Options: In cases where medication is ineffective, procedures such as endometrial ablation (removal of the uterine lining) or hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) may be considered, especially if there are structural abnormalities like fibroids or polyps.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress, and regular exercise can also play a role in regulating menstrual cycles.

4. Iron Supplements: If you are experiencing significant blood loss, your doctor may recommend iron supplements to prevent anemia, which can cause symptoms like dizziness and fatigue.

Regarding your symptoms of dizziness, cold sweats, and fatigue, these could be related to the blood loss and should not be ignored. It is essential to monitor these symptoms closely and report them to your healthcare provider, as they may indicate that your body is not coping well with the prolonged bleeding.

In summary, while it is common for menstrual cycles to vary, prolonged bleeding lasting over 20 days warrants careful monitoring and management. Continue taking your prescribed medications as directed, and keep your doctor informed of any changes in your symptoms. If your bleeding persists or you experience worsening symptoms, further evaluation may be necessary to rule out any underlying conditions. Your health and well-being are paramount, so do not hesitate to seek additional medical advice if needed.
