Brown discharge
After having intercourse, I took a morning urine pregnancy test on days 14 and 17, both of which were negative.
A few days later, I noticed dark brown discharge, which then turned into bright red blood the following day (this occurred a week earlier than my usual menstrual cycle, so I'm unsure if it's my period).
On day 21 after intercourse, I took another pregnancy test, which was also negative.
However, after the bright red blood stopped, I continued to have brown discharge, and sometimes there was also some spotting.
Can I rule out pregnancy? What does the brown discharge indicate?

Hello Ms.
Jenny: Regarding your mention of a negative pregnancy test 12-14 days after your last sexual intercourse, this rules out pregnancy.
The bleeding you described seems more like a menstrual irregularity.
Please visit a gynecologist for an examination.

Understanding brown discharge can be quite perplexing, especially when you are trying to determine whether it is a sign of pregnancy or something else entirely. Based on your description, it seems you have been closely monitoring your body after engaging in sexual activity, and you have experienced a series of events that have raised questions about your reproductive health.
Firstly, brown discharge often indicates old blood that is being expelled from the body. This can occur for several reasons, including the end of a menstrual period, ovulation, or even implantation bleeding if you are pregnant. However, since you have taken multiple pregnancy tests that have returned negative results, it is essential to consider other possibilities.
The timeline you provided suggests that you had sexual intercourse, followed by a negative pregnancy test two weeks later. The appearance of deep brown discharge, which then transitioned to fresh blood, could indicate that your body is preparing for menstruation. It is not uncommon for some women to experience irregularities in their menstrual cycles, which can lead to unexpected bleeding or spotting.
In your case, the fact that you experienced a flow of fresh blood after the brown discharge could suggest that your body is indeed going through a menstrual cycle, albeit possibly earlier than expected. The continuation of brown discharge after the fresh blood could be a normal part of your menstrual cycle, where the body is clearing out old blood and tissue.
It is also worth noting that stress, hormonal fluctuations, and changes in weight or lifestyle can impact your menstrual cycle and lead to unusual discharge patterns. If you have recently experienced any significant changes in your life, these could also contribute to the symptoms you are experiencing.
To address your question about whether you can rule out pregnancy: while negative pregnancy tests are a strong indication that you are not pregnant, they are not infallible. If you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, especially if your symptoms persist or worsen, it may be wise to consult with a healthcare professional. They can perform a more sensitive blood test or an ultrasound to provide clarity on your situation.
In summary, brown discharge can be a normal part of your menstrual cycle, particularly if it is followed by fresh blood. Given your negative pregnancy tests, it is likely that you are not pregnant, but if you have ongoing concerns or if your symptoms change, seeking medical advice is always a prudent step. Your health and peace of mind are paramount, and a healthcare provider can help you navigate these uncertainties.
