Can I get pregnant?
Hello doctor, I had sexual intercourse with my girlfriend on July 28th, which was the eighth day of her menstrual cycle (she started her period on July 21st).
I'm not sure if it was the last day of her period.
We had intercourse twice on July 28th, and we used condoms throughout (the condom was put on after erection, not just before ejaculation, and it was a new condom bought that day).
I also withdrew before ejaculation and finished by masturbating.
Afterward, I checked the condom by blowing air into it; there were no holes, and we did not reuse it.
After finishing, I used a lot of wet wipes and tissue to clean the genital area and my hands of any semen, and I did this both times.
1.
Is there a chance of pregnancy? How high is the risk?
2.
After the second intercourse, my girlfriend noticed some bleeding when she wiped her vaginal area with a wet wipe.
The blood was bright red and there was a bit of a significant amount.
Could this be the end of her period, or could it be due to a tear in the hymen that hasn't healed?
3.
Afterward, I felt some mild abdominal pain.
Is this normal? Thank you!

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low, but it's best to use contraception whenever possible and not to rely on the safe period.
After the second sexual intercourse, if your girlfriend experiences bleeding while wiping her vagina with a wet tissue, it could be due to excessive force.
If she feels some abdominal pain afterward, it's advisable to monitor the situation.
If any discomfort persists, it's recommended to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to understanding the risks of pregnancy after protected sex, it's essential to consider several factors, including the timing of the menstrual cycle, the proper use of condoms, and any potential physical reactions following intercourse.
1. Pregnancy Risk After Protected Sex: Based on your description, you and your girlfriend engaged in protected sex using a new condom throughout the entire act. Condoms are highly effective when used correctly, with a typical failure rate of about 15% per year for typical use, but this rate drops to about 2% with perfect use. Since you mentioned that you checked the condom for any leaks and did not reuse it, the risk of pregnancy is quite low. However, it’s important to note that pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, which means that if there was any contact before the condom was applied, there is a slight risk of pregnancy. Given that you were careful and used a new condom, the likelihood of pregnancy is minimal.
2. Bleeding After Intercourse: The bleeding your girlfriend experienced after using a wet wipe could be attributed to a few factors. If she is on her menstrual cycle, it could be a continuation of her period, especially since you mentioned that the date was close to her menstrual cycle. However, if this bleeding is significantly different from her usual menstrual flow (such as being bright red and heavier than expected), it could indicate other issues, such as irritation or a minor injury to the vaginal walls or hymen. If she is experiencing significant bleeding or pain, it would be wise for her to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any injuries or infections.
3. Abdominal Pain After Intercourse: Feeling some abdominal discomfort after sex can be normal, especially if it is mild and temporary. This discomfort can arise from various factors, including muscle tension, the physical activity involved in sex, or even psychological factors such as anxiety. However, if the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other symptoms (like heavy bleeding, fever, or unusual discharge), it is crucial to seek medical attention.
In summary, while the risk of pregnancy in your situation appears low due to the proper use of condoms, it is essential to monitor any unusual symptoms your girlfriend may experience. If there are concerns about bleeding or abdominal pain, consulting a healthcare provider is advisable to ensure everything is okay. Additionally, if you are looking for more reliable contraception methods in the future, consider discussing options such as hormonal birth control with your healthcare provider, as these can significantly reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy.
