Swelling in the penis?

Hello, recently I experienced pain in my penis after masturbation.
A few days later, I noticed a lump inside my penis that causes pain, especially during erections, and it seems to be discharging pus.
What could be the problem?

Understanding pain and swelling in the penis can be concerning, and it’s important to approach this issue with care and attention. Based on your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing a condition that could involve inflammation or infection, possibly related to the activities you mentioned.

One potential cause of pain and swelling in the penis is Peyronie's disease, which is characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, leading to curved, painful erections. However, given your symptoms of pain, swelling, and discharge, it may be more indicative of an infection or inflammation.

Possible Causes:
1. Infections:
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Conditions such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or herpes can cause pain and discharge. These infections often require prompt medical treatment to prevent complications.

- Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) that can be caused by infections, poor hygiene, or irritants. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and pain.

2. Urethritis:
- This is the inflammation of the urethra, which can be caused by infections or irritants. Symptoms may include pain during urination, discharge, and swelling.

3. Trauma or Injury:
- If you have engaged in vigorous sexual activity or masturbation, it is possible to injure the penis, leading to pain and swelling. This can also result in hematomas (localized bleeding outside of blood vessels).

4. Penile Fracture:
- Although rare, a penile fracture can occur during vigorous sexual activity, leading to severe pain, swelling, and sometimes a popping sound. This is a medical emergency.

5. Cysts or Abscesses:
- Sometimes, cysts or abscesses can form in the penile tissue, leading to localized swelling and pain. An abscess may also produce pus, which could explain the discharge you mentioned.

Recommended Actions:
1. Seek Medical Attention:
- It is crucial to see a healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis. They may perform a physical examination and possibly order tests such as urine tests, swabs, or imaging studies to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.

2. Avoid Sexual Activity:
- Until you have been evaluated by a healthcare professional, it is advisable to refrain from any sexual activity, including masturbation, to prevent further irritation or injury.

3. Maintain Hygiene:
- Keeping the genital area clean and dry can help prevent infections. Use mild soap and water, and avoid harsh chemicals or irritants.

4. Pain Management:
- Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help alleviate discomfort, but consult with a healthcare provider before taking any medication.

5. Follow-Up Care:
- Depending on the diagnosis, follow-up care may include antibiotics for infections, topical treatments for inflammation, or other specific therapies.

Conclusion:
Pain and swelling in the penis can arise from various causes, ranging from infections to trauma. It is essential to seek medical evaluation to determine the underlying issue and receive appropriate treatment. Ignoring these symptoms can lead to complications, so prompt action is advisable. Remember, discussing sexual health issues can be uncomfortable, but healthcare providers are trained to handle these matters with professionalism and confidentiality.
