Genital issues
Hello doctor, recently I noticed during a shower that the labia majora were opened, and there were numerous "white bumps" distributed on both sides of the clitoris and above the labia minora.
The appearance is flat and slightly raised; I can't really feel the bumps when I touch them, but they look quite striking, some are dense while others are scattered.
There are even tiny bumps forming a line along both sides of the clitoris from the upper part of the labia minora, which are flesh-colored.
Neither type causes any itching or pain.
I hadn't particularly noticed these before, but seeing them suddenly startled me.
I usually go to bed around 2 AM and have consistent vaginal discharge, and I drink relatively little water.
Doctor, could you please answer the following questions: 1.
What are these bumps? 2.
Are they harmful? 3.
Do I need to seek medical attention immediately? (Due to transportation issues, it is quite inconvenient for me to go to the hospital at any time.) Thank you.

Hello, Miss Anonymous: Based on your description, your condition may be caused by benign sebaceous gland hyperplasia of the vulvar skin follicles.
This is generally due to individual constitution and does not pose a health risk, so there is no need to worry too much.
It is advisable to monitor the situation for a while longer.
However, if you are still concerned, it would be best to consult a doctor for further evaluation.

When it comes to the appearance of white bumps on the labia, there are several potential causes, and understanding these can help you determine whether medical attention is necessary.
1. Possible Causes: The white bumps you are describing could be due to a variety of conditions. One common cause is Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that are actually sebaceous glands. They are completely normal and harmless. Another possibility is pearly penile papules, which are also benign and typically found on the penis but can sometimes be confused with similar structures in females. Additionally, molluscum contagiosum, a viral skin infection, can cause small, raised, pearly bumps that may appear on the genital area. Other potential causes could include folliculitis, which is inflammation of hair follicles, or genital warts, which are caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
2. Risks and Concerns: Most of the conditions mentioned above are benign and pose no significant health risks. However, if the bumps change in appearance, become painful, or are accompanied by other symptoms such as itching, burning, or unusual discharge, it may indicate an infection or another condition that requires medical evaluation. It’s also important to differentiate between benign conditions and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which can present with similar symptoms.
3. When to Seek Help: While many benign conditions do not require immediate medical attention, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider if:
- The bumps change in size, color, or texture.
- You experience discomfort, pain, or itching in the area.
- There is any unusual discharge or odor.
- You have concerns about STIs or if you have had unprotected sexual contact.
Given that you mentioned transportation issues, consider scheduling an appointment when it is more convenient, but do not hesitate to seek care if symptoms worsen or if you develop new symptoms.
In the meantime, maintaining good hygiene and monitoring the bumps for any changes can be helpful. Staying hydrated and managing stress, such as ensuring you get adequate sleep, can also support your overall health and immune function.
In summary, while the appearance of white bumps on the labia can be alarming, many causes are benign. However, it is essential to remain vigilant and seek medical advice if you notice any changes or experience discomfort. Your health and peace of mind are important, so don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional when needed.
