Rosacea problem
I would like to inquire about the raised acne scars caused by rosacea (which do not contain any active acne, just tissue).
They have not diminished over time, and I am wondering if there are any topical treatments that can help flatten these scars and restore my skin to a smooth texture.
I have been visiting a dermatologist, and I apply "Fuli" on my nose and areas where I tend to break out every night.
However, I notice that the treated areas peel the next morning.
I am unsure if I can use a moisturizer, as my skin tends to be very oily, especially on my nose.
Typically, after washing my face or using blotting paper, my skin becomes oily again within half an hour to an hour.

Hello: For a detailed introduction to rosacea, you can refer to the article on the Dermatology Expert Health website http://www.drskincare.com.tw/Qa/Index.aspx?CID=9.
Each time I apply medication in the morning, the area peels.
During autumn and winter, it is advisable to use a lighter moisturizing serum or lotion.
Regarding the raised scars caused by rosacea, I recommend that you consult a nearby dermatologist to assess the severity and discuss appropriate treatment options http://www.derma.org.tw/user_finddoctor.php.
Thank you!

Rhinophyma, a severe form of rosacea, can lead to thickened, bumpy skin on the nose and surrounding areas. The scars and irregularities caused by this condition can be challenging to treat, but there are several effective options available to help smooth the skin and improve its appearance.
Understanding Rhinophyma Scars
Rhinophyma is characterized by an enlargement of the nose due to the thickening of the skin and sebaceous glands. This condition can lead to the formation of raised, bumpy scars that may not respond well to topical treatments alone. The key to managing these scars lies in understanding their nature and the underlying condition.
Effective Treatments for Rhinophyma Scars
1. Topical Treatments: While topical treatments may not completely eliminate rhinophyma scars, they can help manage the skin's overall condition. Products containing retinoids, such as tretinoin, can promote cell turnover and improve skin texture. However, it's essential to use these products cautiously, especially if your skin is sensitive or prone to irritation.
2. Laser Therapy: Laser treatments, such as CO2 laser resurfacing or pulsed dye lasers, are among the most effective options for treating rhinophyma scars. These lasers can remove the outer layers of thickened skin and stimulate collagen production, leading to smoother skin over time. Multiple sessions may be required, and results can vary based on the severity of the condition.
3. Surgical Options: In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to remove excess tissue and reshape the nose. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with significant deformities due to rhinophyma. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon specializing in facial procedures can provide guidance on the best surgical options.
4. Chemical Peels: Superficial chemical peels can help improve the texture of the skin and reduce the appearance of scars. These peels work by exfoliating the outer layer of skin, promoting new skin growth. However, deeper peels may be needed for more pronounced scars, and these should be performed by a qualified professional.
5. Microneedling: This technique involves using fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body's healing response and collagen production. Microneedling can improve the texture and appearance of scars over time, making it a viable option for those with rhinophyma scars.
Daily Skin Care Routine
For individuals with oily skin, maintaining a proper skincare routine is crucial. Here are some tips:
- Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser to remove excess oil without stripping the skin. Avoid harsh scrubs that can irritate the skin.
- Moisturizing: While it may seem counterintuitive, moisturizing is essential, even for oily skin. Look for lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizers that won't clog pores. You can use a gel-based moisturizer that hydrates without adding excess oil.
- Spot Treatments: If you experience breakouts, consider using targeted treatments with ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These can help manage acne without exacerbating oiliness.
- Sunscreen: Protecting your skin from UV damage is vital, especially after treatments like laser therapy or chemical peels. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily.
Conclusion
Managing rhinophyma scars requires a multifaceted approach that may include topical treatments, laser therapy, surgical options, and a consistent skincare routine. It's essential to consult with a dermatologist who can assess your specific condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan. Additionally, be cautious with any new products, especially if you have sensitive or reactive skin. Regular follow-ups with your dermatologist will help monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
