I would like to know about the conception period?

Hello, doctor.
I previously had an ultrasound at the clinic, and on September 11, it showed 8 weeks and 4 days with a measurement of 2.2 cm.
My boyfriend and I have not been using contraception.
My menstrual cycle varies, sometimes 30 days and sometimes 35 days.
On July 21, I got drunk and had relations with my ex-boyfriend, so I'm unsure who the father of this child is.

Mmmm, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2018/11/16

More Info

Understanding conception dates can be quite complex, especially when there are multiple factors involved, such as irregular menstrual cycles and different sexual partners. In your case, the ultrasound indicated that you were 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant on September 11, which provides a crucial piece of information for estimating your conception date.

Typically, pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). However, since your menstrual cycle varies between 30 and 35 days, this can complicate the calculation. A standard pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks from the LMP, but conception usually occurs about two weeks after the LMP in a regular cycle. Given your ultrasound results, we can estimate your conception date.

If you were 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant on September 11, that means you likely conceived around July 17. This estimation is based on the assumption that the ultrasound measurements are accurate and that your cycle length is taken into account. Since you mentioned having unprotected intercourse with both your boyfriend and your ex-boyfriend, it is indeed challenging to determine the biological father of the child based solely on the dates.

To clarify further, if your last menstrual period was around mid-July, and you had sexual relations on July 21, it is possible that conception could have occurred from either partner, depending on the timing of ovulation and sperm viability. Sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, which means that if you ovulated shortly after July 21, there is a chance that either partner could be the biological father.

In situations like this, it is essential to communicate openly with your healthcare provider. They can provide you with additional resources and support to navigate your feelings and concerns regarding paternity and pregnancy. If you are considering a paternity test, it is usually recommended to wait until after the baby is born, as testing during pregnancy can be invasive and carries some risks.

Additionally, it is crucial to prioritize your health during this time. Regular prenatal care is essential for monitoring the health of both you and your baby. If you have any concerns about your pregnancy or the potential impact of your past alcohol consumption, discussing these with your healthcare provider is vital. They can offer guidance on what to expect and how to ensure a healthy pregnancy moving forward.

In summary, while the ultrasound provides a helpful estimate of your conception date, the uncertainty surrounding the biological father can be distressing. Open communication with your healthcare provider and considering your options for paternity testing after the birth may help alleviate some of your concerns. Remember to take care of your physical and emotional health during this time, as it is crucial for both you and your baby.
