I feel very scared every day?

Hello, doctor! I have been experiencing floaters for over a year now, and recently I have been noticing symptoms similar to visual persistence.
When I look at bright lights or refracted light, I see spots of light that take a moment to disappear.
I also see overlapping images when looking at circular or elongated shapes.
I would like to ask the doctor: 1.
Are my symptoms indicative of visual persistence? Will it get better? How should I manage this? 2.
Is this condition related to floaters? 3.
When I daydream, I feel like my vision is spinning, almost like it's raining; is this due to the floaters? I hope the doctor can help me with these questions.
Thank you, I am really scared.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out with your concerns about your visual disturbances. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a combination of symptoms that could be related to floaters, visual persistence, and possibly other visual phenomena. Let’s break down your questions and provide some insights.

1. Are your symptoms related to visual persistence? Will it improve? What should you do?
Visual persistence, also known as afterimages, occurs when you see a visual impression after the original stimulus has been removed. This can happen with bright lights or high-contrast images, and it may last for a short duration before fading away. Your experience of seeing shapes or lines overlapping could be a result of this phenomenon. In many cases, visual persistence is benign and may improve over time, especially if you reduce exposure to bright lights or high-contrast environments. However, if this symptom persists or worsens, it is essential to consult with an eye care professional for a thorough examination.

2. Is this situation related to floaters?
Floaters are small specks or strands that drift through your field of vision, often more noticeable against bright backgrounds. They are typically caused by changes in the vitreous gel inside the eye as it ages or due to other factors. While floaters themselves do not usually cause visual persistence, they can coexist with other visual disturbances. If you are experiencing new or increased floaters, especially if accompanied by flashes of light or a sudden increase in visual disturbances, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention, as these could be signs of a retinal tear or detachment.

3. Is the sensation of your vision spinning or feeling like rain related to floaters?
The sensation of your vision spinning or feeling like rain could be attributed to several factors. While floaters can create a sense of movement in your vision, the feeling of your surroundings moving or swirling may also be related to other conditions, such as vestibular issues or visual processing anomalies. If this sensation occurs frequently or is accompanied by other symptoms like dizziness, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying conditions.

In summary, while your symptoms may be related to floaters and visual persistence, it is essential to monitor your condition closely. If you notice any changes in your vision, such as an increase in floaters, flashes of light, or significant changes in your visual clarity, please seek an eye care professional's advice promptly. Regular eye examinations are crucial, especially if you have a history of visual disturbances.
Additionally, managing your exposure to bright lights and ensuring you take regular breaks from screens can help alleviate some symptoms. If you continue to feel anxious about your symptoms, discussing your concerns with a healthcare provider can provide reassurance and help you understand your condition better. Remember, you are not alone in this, and there are professionals who can help guide you through your visual health concerns.
