Elliptical, elongated hard mass beside the penis?
Hello doctor, about three weeks ago while taking a shower, I suddenly noticed an oval-shaped lump approximately the length of my index finger and 2 centimeters wide, located on the upper left side of my penis extending to the left testicle.
The lump feels hard and can be slightly moved when pressed.
It disappears during the day but reappears in the evening.
Recently, after masturbating, the lump has been intermittently painful for a couple of days.
It also disappears when I lie down.
I'm not sure what this condition is and whether I need to see a doctor.
Could you please help me with this? Thank you very much!

When it comes to the discovery of an oval-shaped hard lump near the penis, particularly one that appears to fluctuate in size and consistency, there are several potential causes and considerations to keep in mind. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing a condition that may be related to the anatomy of the male reproductive system, and it is important to approach this with careful consideration.
One possible explanation for the lump you are feeling could be a spermatocele, which is a cyst that forms in the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicle. Spermatoceles are typically filled with fluid and can vary in size. They are usually painless and may become more noticeable at certain times, such as after physical activity or sexual arousal. The fact that the lump seems to disappear when lying down could suggest that it is related to the position of the testicles and the surrounding structures.
Another possibility is a varicocele, which is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum. Varicoceles can sometimes feel like a lump and may become more prominent when standing or during physical exertion. They can also cause discomfort or a dull ache, especially after prolonged standing or physical activity.
Additionally, the intermittent pain you are experiencing after masturbation could indicate epididymitis, which is inflammation of the epididymis. This condition can be caused by infections or other factors and may present with swelling, tenderness, and sometimes a lump-like sensation.
It is also essential to consider the possibility of hernia, particularly an inguinal hernia, where tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This can create a lump in the groin area that may change in size with movement or position.
Given the symptoms you have described, including the lump's fluctuation and the associated pain, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare professional, such as a urologist, can perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to better understand the nature of the lump. This will help rule out any serious conditions and provide you with a clear diagnosis.
In summary, while there are several benign explanations for the lump you are experiencing, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure that it is not indicative of a more serious issue. Early evaluation and diagnosis can lead to appropriate management and peace of mind. Do not hesitate to make an appointment, as your health and well-being are paramount.
