Can I get pregnant?

Hello, doctor.
My girlfriend recently experienced menstrual irregularities, possibly due to an emergency contraceptive she took after an incident.
She had a brief period on November 11, and her most recent period started on November 26 and lasted until December 4.
On December 6, we engaged in protected intercourse, and we confirmed that there were no leaks in the condom.
Before we started, my girlfriend briefly stimulated me, but we both remember that there was no pre-ejaculate fluid released, and we put on the condom immediately.
About 15 minutes later, my girlfriend touched the surface of her vaginal opening with the same hand she used to stimulate me (which had a lot of thick, sticky discharge), but she did not insert her fingers.
Throughout this process, her hand was in contact with my body, so it should have been wiped off, and I don't think her hand was wet.
Given this situation, is there still a chance of pregnancy?

Your girlfriend recently experienced menstrual irregularities, possibly due to an incident involving emergency contraception.
She had a brief menstrual period starting on November 11, and her most recent period began on November 26 and lasted until December 4.
On December 6, you engaged in protected sexual intercourse, and you confirmed that there were no leaks in the condom.
Prior to this, your girlfriend briefly stimulated you, but both of you recall that there was no pre-ejaculatory fluid released before putting on the condom.
After approximately 15 minutes post-intercourse, she touched the surface of her vaginal opening with the same hand she used to stimulate you, noting that there was a significant amount of thick, sticky discharge, but she did not insert her fingers.
Throughout this process, her hand was in contact with your body, which likely removed any potential fluid, and she does not recall her hand being wet.
Given these circumstances, it is unlikely that she would become pregnant.

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant after engaging in safe sex and hand contact, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the role of bodily fluids in this process.

Firstly, pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg. For this to happen, sperm must be deposited in or near the vagina, where it can travel through the cervix and into the uterus to meet an egg. In your case, you mentioned that you and your girlfriend engaged in safe sex using a condom, which is an effective method of preventing both pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when used correctly.

From your description, it seems that you both took precautions to ensure that there was no direct transfer of bodily fluids that could lead to pregnancy. You stated that there was no pre-ejaculate (pre-cum) released before putting on the condom, which is crucial because pre-ejaculate can contain sperm. Additionally, you confirmed that the condom was intact throughout the sexual activity, which further reduces the risk of pregnancy.

Now, regarding the hand contact: you mentioned that your girlfriend touched her vaginal area after using her hand to stimulate you. While it is theoretically possible for sperm to be transferred from your body to hers via her hands, the likelihood of this resulting in pregnancy is extremely low, especially if she did not insert her fingers into her vagina. Sperm are quite sensitive and do not survive long outside the human body; they typically die quickly when exposed to air or other surfaces. Furthermore, if her hands were not wet with any bodily fluids (like semen) when she touched her vaginal area, the chances of sperm being transferred are negligible.

In summary, based on the information you've provided, the risk of pregnancy in this scenario is very low. The use of a condom during intercourse is a reliable method of contraception, and the subsequent hand contact, given the precautions you both took, is unlikely to result in pregnancy. However, if there are still concerns or if your girlfriend experiences any unusual symptoms or a missed period, it would be wise for her to take a pregnancy test or consult with a healthcare provider for further reassurance.

It's also worth noting that if either of you has ongoing concerns about sexual health, contraception, or STIs, seeking advice from a healthcare professional can provide clarity and peace of mind. Regular check-ups and open communication about sexual health are essential for maintaining a healthy relationship.
