There is a small round lump in the anus?
Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask about an issue I experienced after being infected with viral gastroenteritis on October 3rd.
Due to diarrhea, I received an injection, and while the diarrhea improved after the injection, I noticed that my bowel movements have decreased compared to before the illness.
Occasionally, I have had green stools that had a slight medicinal smell.
Although my bowel frequency has returned to normal and I no longer have green stools, I sometimes notice a soft, round lump about 1-2 cm in diameter at the anal opening after a bowel movement.
It is not painful and there is no bleeding, and the lump disappears on its own about an hour after the bowel movement.
I would like to ask, what is this soft lump? What could be causing it? Is there any impact on my health? Are there any methods to improve this condition? Would I need surgery to remove the lump? I apologize for the many questions! Thank you, doctor, for clarifying this for me!

When it comes to understanding a soft lump near the anus, it's essential to consider various potential causes and their implications for your health. Based on your description, the lump you are experiencing could be a few different things, but the most common possibilities include hemorrhoids, anal warts, or a perianal abscess.
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus, which can occur due to increased pressure from straining during bowel movements, pregnancy, or prolonged sitting. They can be internal or external. External hemorrhoids can sometimes present as a soft lump near the anus, and they may not always be painful, especially if there is no thrombosis (clot formation). Given that your lump appears and disappears after bowel movements, this could be a sign of a hemorrhoid.
Anal warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), can also present as soft lumps around the anal area. These warts can vary in size and may not cause pain or bleeding initially. However, they can be persistent and may require treatment if they cause discomfort or concern.
Perianal abscesses occur when a gland near the anus becomes blocked and infected, leading to a collection of pus. While these typically cause pain and swelling, a soft lump that resolves quickly after bowel movements is less likely to be an abscess.
Given that your lump is soft, non-painful, and resolves on its own, it is less likely to be a serious condition. However, it is crucial to monitor any changes, such as increased size, pain, or bleeding, as these could indicate a more serious issue.
In terms of treatment and management, here are some recommendations:
1. Dietary Changes: Ensure you are consuming a high-fiber diet to promote regular bowel movements and reduce straining. Foods rich in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Staying hydrated is also essential.
2. Over-the-Counter Treatments: If the lump is indeed a hemorrhoid, topical treatments such as creams or ointments containing hydrocortisone can help reduce inflammation and discomfort.
3. Warm Baths: Soaking in warm water (sitz baths) can provide relief and help reduce swelling in the anal area.
4. Avoid Straining: When using the bathroom, try not to strain or sit for prolonged periods, as this can exacerbate hemorrhoids or other issues.
5. Monitoring: Keep an eye on the lump. If it persists, changes in size, or if you experience pain or bleeding, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination.
6. Surgical Options: Surgery is typically reserved for more severe cases, such as thrombosed hemorrhoids or persistent anal warts that do not respond to other treatments. If your lump does not resolve or if it is diagnosed as something requiring intervention, your doctor will discuss the best course of action.
In conclusion, while the soft lump you are experiencing is likely benign, it is essential to monitor your symptoms and consult with a healthcare provider if you have concerns or if the situation changes. Regular check-ups can help ensure that any potential issues are addressed promptly, allowing you to maintain your health and well-being.
