Can I get pregnant?
Hello Doctor, I am currently using the Yaz birth control pill and I am on my second pack.
I took the last white inactive pill on the 8th day when my period started, and I opened a new pack on the 9th.
I had sexual intercourse with ejaculation on the 12th (the 5th day of my period).
Is my contraceptive protection effective in this situation? Additionally, on the 18th, I noticed pink discharge, and on the 19th, I visited a gynecologist and was prescribed antibiotics.
I asked the doctor if the antibiotics would interfere with the birth control pills, and the doctor said it would not.
However, the pink discharge has continued and even increased until the 22nd, and I have also been experiencing some breast tenderness (only when touched).
Am I pregnant? I took a pregnancy test, and it showed no positive result!

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing a lot of uncertainty and concern regarding your current situation with birth control, potential pregnancy, and unusual symptoms. Let's break down your concerns and provide some clarity.
Firstly, regarding the effectiveness of the birth control pill you are using, it is important to understand that when taken correctly, birth control pills are highly effective at preventing pregnancy. Since you mentioned that you started a new pack immediately after finishing the last active pill of the previous pack, you should still be protected from pregnancy, especially since you were taking the pills consistently. However, it's crucial to note that the effectiveness can be compromised if pills are missed or taken inconsistently.
You had unprotected intercourse on the 12th day of your cycle, which is typically within the window of time when you would be protected if you have been taking your pills correctly. The presence of pink discharge could be attributed to several factors, including hormonal fluctuations, breakthrough bleeding, or even the effects of the antibiotics you were prescribed. Antibiotics can sometimes affect the gut flora, which may influence how well the birth control pill is absorbed, but most commonly prescribed antibiotics do not interfere with hormonal contraceptives.
The pink discharge lasting until the 22nd could also indicate a few possibilities. It might be a side effect of the hormonal changes due to the birth control pills or a sign of ovulation, which can sometimes cause light spotting. If you are experiencing breast tenderness, this can also be a common side effect of hormonal contraceptives.
You mentioned that you took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. This is a good indicator that you are likely not pregnant, especially if the test was taken after a missed period or at least a week after the potential conception date. Pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period, as they measure the hormone hCG, which takes time to build up in your system if you are pregnant.
If the pink discharge continues or if you experience any additional symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or any other unusual changes, it would be wise to follow up with your healthcare provider. They can perform a more thorough examination and possibly run additional tests to rule out any other conditions.
In conclusion, based on the information provided, it seems unlikely that you are pregnant, especially since you have been consistent with your birth control and have had a negative pregnancy test. However, if you continue to have unusual symptoms or if you have any further concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and support. It's always better to be cautious and ensure your health and well-being are prioritized.
