Feeling the urge to urinate after having a bowel movement?
Hello, doctor.
As the title suggests, I tend to urinate while having a bowel movement.
After I finish, I feel the urge to urinate again within a few minutes, even though I have already urinated during the bowel movement.
It seems like I haven't completely emptied my bladder, but at that moment, I feel like I've finished urinating.
Is this normal? Additionally, the urine I pass after a bowel movement is usually clearer and rarely foamy.
A month ago, I had a urine test due to back pain, mistakenly thinking it was a kidney issue, and everything came back normal.
Is what I described a normal phenomenon?
Also, a few days ago, before a labor health examination, I had a bowel movement and urinated at home.
When I went to the hospital for the examination, they also tested my urine.
Since I mentioned that the urine I pass shortly after a bowel movement is clearer, could this affect the accuracy of the urine test results? Furthermore, during the examination, I had a smaller volume of urine, making it difficult to collect a midstream sample.
Would this also impact the accuracy of the results? Thank you.

Hello: Normal urine tests should yield consistent results unless there are underlying issues.
However, some health check-up programs may have fewer testing items compared to the comprehensive urine tests covered by health insurance.
If the urine test results are normal, the concentration of urine can be influenced by hydration levels and dietary intake.
However, if there are issues with urination that affect daily life, it is advisable to consult a urologist for further evaluation, as some problems may originate from the bladder rather than the kidneys, even if the urine appears normal.
Wishing you good health.

Feeling the urge to urinate shortly after having a bowel movement is a phenomenon that can be attributed to several factors related to the anatomy and physiology of the urinary and gastrointestinal systems. It is not uncommon for individuals to experience this sensation, and it can be considered a normal occurrence in many cases.
When you have a bowel movement, the rectum and bladder are in close proximity to each other. The act of defecation can stimulate the nerves that are shared between these two systems. This stimulation can lead to a sensation of urgency to urinate, even if you have just emptied your bladder. Additionally, the pressure exerted on the pelvic floor during bowel movements can also contribute to the feeling of needing to urinate afterward.
In your case, you mentioned that you feel the urge to urinate shortly after having a bowel movement, and that the urine produced is typically clear and not foamy. This is generally a good sign, as clear urine often indicates proper hydration and the absence of significant protein or other substances that could indicate a health issue. The fact that you previously had your urine tested and found everything to be normal further supports the idea that your urinary function is likely within the normal range.
Regarding your concern about whether this pattern of urination could affect the accuracy of urine tests, it is important to note that the timing and method of urine collection can influence test results. If you are unable to provide a midstream sample due to having a small volume of urine, it could potentially affect the results, particularly if the sample is contaminated or not representative of your typical urine output. However, if your urine is clear and you have no other symptoms, it is unlikely that this would significantly impact the results of a routine urinalysis.
If you are concerned about the frequency of urination or any changes in your urinary habits, it may be beneficial to consult with a healthcare professional, particularly a urologist. They can provide further evaluation and determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed. Additionally, if you experience any pain, discomfort, or changes in the color or odor of your urine, these could be signs of a urinary tract infection or other conditions that warrant further investigation.
In summary, feeling the urge to urinate after a bowel movement can be a normal physiological response due to the close anatomical relationship between the bladder and rectum. Your clear urine and previous normal test results suggest that your urinary health is likely fine. However, if you have ongoing concerns or experience any new symptoms, seeking medical advice would be a prudent step to ensure your overall health and well-being.
