Can I get pregnant?

Due to my irregular menstrual cycle, on February 27, my boyfriend used his genitalia on me.
We both released clear fluid, but he did not penetrate or ejaculate, only touching around the labia.
A few days later, I noticed some vaginal discharge, and then two weeks later, I drank red dates and longan to try to induce my period.
As a result, I have been experiencing bloating and an unusual feeling below my navel.
(I also have poor lifestyle habits.) My last menstrual period was in early January.

Xuan, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2019/03/11

Hello, Xuan: Based on my assessment, the likelihood of pregnancy is low.
Your menstrual cycle has always been irregular, and since there was no ejaculation inside the vagina, the chances of conception are not high, so there's no need to worry too much.
If your period does not come for an extended time, I recommend taking a pregnancy test.
If the test is negative, you can consider taking medication to induce menstruation.

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant with irregular periods, the answer is yes, it is possible. Irregular menstrual cycles can make it more challenging to predict ovulation, which is the time when a woman is most fertile. However, even if your periods are irregular, ovulation can still occur, and sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, increasing the chances of conception.

Irregular periods can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, significant weight changes, excessive exercise, or underlying medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders. These factors can disrupt the normal hormonal signals that regulate the menstrual cycle, leading to irregular ovulation and, consequently, irregular periods.

In your case, you mentioned that your last menstrual period was in January, and you engaged in sexual activity on February 27 without penetration or ejaculation. While the risk of pregnancy in this scenario is lower, it is not entirely absent. Pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) can contain sperm, and if it comes into contact with the vaginal area, there is a possibility of sperm entering the reproductive tract, especially if you are in your fertile window.

The symptoms you described, such as bloating and discomfort below the navel, could be related to various factors, including hormonal changes, digestive issues, or even anxiety about the possibility of pregnancy. Drinking herbal remedies like red dates and longan may help with menstrual regulation, but it is essential to approach such remedies with caution, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are unsure of their effects on your body.

If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy or if your irregular periods continue, it is advisable to take a home pregnancy test if your period does not arrive as expected. Additionally, consulting with a healthcare provider can provide you with a clearer understanding of your menstrual health and any underlying issues that may need to be addressed.

In summary, while irregular periods can complicate the process of conception, they do not entirely prevent it. If you are experiencing irregular cycles and are concerned about your reproductive health, seeking medical advice can help you understand your situation better and explore options for managing your menstrual health. Regular check-ups and open communication with your healthcare provider can lead to better outcomes, whether you are trying to conceive or simply seeking to regulate your menstrual cycle.
