Oral issues
I previously used Sensodyne toothpaste, but recently I wanted to whiten my teeth.
After searching online, I found many recommendations for Crest 3D White Professional Effects Whitening Toothpaste, so I bought it.
However, after brushing my teeth, I noticed that my mouth felt a bit dry after rinsing, and there was a thin film (white and semi-transparent) in my mouth.
I didn't experience this with Sensodyne.
What could be the issue?

Dear Mr.
Hao,
Hello! Generally, this type of toothpaste is more abrasive.
To achieve whiter teeth, it is better to seek professional treatment from a dentist.
Please communicate more with your doctor! Thank you! Wishing you safety!
Sincerely,

When it comes to oral health, the choice of toothpaste can significantly impact not only the effectiveness of your dental hygiene routine but also your overall comfort and health. You mentioned switching from Sensodyne toothpaste to Crest 3D White Professional Effects toothpaste in hopes of achieving a whiter smile. However, you’ve experienced some discomfort, including a dry mouth and a thin, translucent film after brushing. Let’s explore what might be happening and how to address these issues.
Firstly, Crest 3D White toothpaste contains various whitening agents, including hydrogen peroxide and silica, which can help remove surface stains and whiten teeth. However, these ingredients can sometimes lead to increased sensitivity, especially if you have pre-existing conditions such as gum recession or enamel erosion. The sensation of dryness and the film you are experiencing could be attributed to the formulation of the toothpaste. Some whitening toothpastes can be more abrasive than regular ones, which may lead to a feeling of dryness or irritation in the mouth.
The thin, translucent film you mentioned could be a result of the toothpaste's ingredients interacting with your saliva or the natural bacteria in your mouth. Some whitening agents can create a temporary residue that may feel different from what you experienced with Sensodyne, which is designed to be gentle and soothing for sensitive teeth. If the film persists, it might be worth considering whether you are rinsing thoroughly enough after brushing, as residual toothpaste can contribute to this sensation.
Here are some recommendations to help alleviate the discomfort you are experiencing:
1. Rinse Thoroughly: After brushing with Crest 3D White, ensure you rinse your mouth thoroughly with water. This can help remove any residual toothpaste that may be contributing to the film sensation.
2. Hydration: If you are experiencing dryness, make sure to stay well-hydrated. Drinking water throughout the day can help maintain moisture in your mouth and alleviate any discomfort.
3. Switching Back: If the discomfort continues, consider switching back to Sensodyne or another toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth. These formulations are generally milder and may not cause the same level of irritation.
4. Consult Your Dentist: If the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s essential to consult your dentist. They can evaluate your oral health and determine if there are underlying issues contributing to your discomfort. They may also recommend alternative whitening methods that are less abrasive.
5. Consider a Different Whitening Method: If your goal is to whiten your teeth, there are various options available, including professional whitening treatments, whitening strips, or custom trays provided by your dentist. These methods can often provide better results without the side effects associated with some over-the-counter whitening toothpastes.
In conclusion, while Crest 3D White toothpaste may be effective for some individuals seeking a brighter smile, it’s crucial to listen to your body and adjust your oral care routine accordingly. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential, but comfort and health should always come first. If you continue to experience discomfort, don’t hesitate to reach out to your dental professional for personalized advice and treatment options.
