Are you pregnant?
Hello doctor, my last menstrual period started on March 23, and my cycle is usually around 30-33 days.
My period is now six days late, and I took a pregnancy test on May 2, which showed one line, indicating that I am not pregnant.
My menstrual cycles have always been regular, so I would like to know if I should take another pregnancy test or just wait for my period to arrive.
Currently, I have increased clear discharge, acne on my neck, and a bloated stomach, but I do not have breast tenderness, nausea, or any other discomfort.

When it comes to the question of whether to retest for pregnancy after a missed period, there are several factors to consider. Based on your description, you experienced a missed period, which is a common early sign of pregnancy. However, you tested negative on a home pregnancy test (HPT) six days after your expected period.
Firstly, it is important to note that home pregnancy tests are generally quite accurate, especially if used correctly. Most tests can detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in urine about a week after a missed period. However, if you tested too early or if your hormone levels are not high enough yet, it could lead to a false negative result.
Given that your menstrual cycle typically ranges from 30 to 33 days, and you are now six days late, it might be beneficial to wait a few more days before retesting. This allows time for hCG levels to rise if you are indeed pregnant. If you choose to retest, using the first morning urine can increase the accuracy of the result, as it contains the highest concentration of hCG.
In addition to the missed period and negative test, you mentioned experiencing increased transparent discharge, acne on your neck, and a bloated stomach. These symptoms can be associated with hormonal changes, which may occur for various reasons, including stress, changes in diet, or other health conditions. While they can be indicative of pregnancy, they are not definitive signs on their own.
If your period does not arrive within a week after your retest, or if you continue to experience unusual symptoms, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They may recommend a blood test, which can detect pregnancy earlier and more accurately than a home test.
Furthermore, if you have any concerns about your health or if you experience any unusual symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or other significant changes, seeking medical advice promptly is essential.
In summary, while it may be reasonable to wait a few more days and retest, monitoring your body for any significant changes is crucial. If you remain uncertain or if your symptoms persist, consulting with a healthcare professional is the best course of action. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status.
