After using Phenylephrine?
Hello doctor, I just had surgery and my wound hasn't healed yet.
Is it correct for the doctor to ask me to apply phenol red? When I started applying phenol red, there was a discharge, which I believe is tissue fluid.
Is this normal? Should I continue applying it? Also, after using the restroom, should I apply phenol red again? Thank you, doctor.

Dr. Ke Fangxu reply Surgery
If the surgery was performed cleanly, there is no need to apply antiviral ointment afterward.
The wound will naturally have some discharge.
Personally, I do not recommend continuing to apply Fenofibrate.
Your physician may have other considerations, so it would be best to clarify this with them.

Using Fenolyn (also known as phenol or phenolic compounds) after surgery can be a topic of concern, especially regarding its safety and effectiveness in promoting wound healing. It is essential to understand both the properties of Fenolyn and the nature of your surgical wound to determine if its use is appropriate.
Firstly, Fenolyn is often used for its antiseptic properties. It can help to prevent infection in wounds, which is crucial after any surgical procedure. However, its application should be guided by your healthcare provider, as improper use can lead to complications. If your doctor has recommended applying Fenolyn to your surgical site, it is likely because they believe it will aid in preventing infection and promote healing. However, it is essential to follow their instructions carefully.
Regarding the drainage you mentioned, it is not uncommon for surgical wounds to produce serous fluid, which is a clear, yellowish fluid that can leak from the wound site. This fluid is typically a part of the healing process and can be a sign that your body is responding to the surgery. However, if the drainage is excessive, has a foul odor, or is accompanied by increased redness, swelling, or pain, these could be signs of infection, and you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.
As for whether you should continue applying Fenolyn after using the restroom, it is generally advisable to keep the wound clean and dry. If your surgical site is exposed to moisture (such as from washing), it may be beneficial to reapply the antiseptic as directed by your physician. However, you should avoid over-saturating the wound with any product, as this can impede the healing process. Always ensure that your hands are clean before touching the wound or applying any medication.
In summary, using Fenolyn after surgery can be safe and effective if recommended by your healthcare provider. It is crucial to monitor your wound for any signs of infection and to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the application of any antiseptic. If you have any concerns about the healing process or the use of Fenolyn, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for clarification and guidance. They can provide you with personalized advice based on your specific situation and the nature of your surgery.
