the White Spot Near Stitches After Wisdom Tooth Extraction - Dentistry

After wisdom tooth extraction, there is a white substance near the stitches?

Doctor, it's been two days since I had my wisdom teeth removed, and during my check-up today, I noticed a white patch near the stitches.
It doesn't hurt and I don't feel anything unusual, but I read online that it could be food debris.
However, since the extraction, my diet has only consisted of milk and rice milk, and after drinking, I rinse my mouth with water.
I'm not sure if that white patch is my gums healing or if it's food debris.

The day after having wisdom teeth removed, I noticed white patches near the stitches, which could be food debris trapped there.
It is recommended to brush normally and consider using mouthwash.
If the white substance persists, it is advisable to return for a check-up.

After wisdom tooth extraction, it's common to notice various changes in the gum area, particularly around the stitches. The appearance of a white spot near the stitches can be concerning, but it's essential to understand the potential causes and what they might indicate about your healing process.

Firstly, the white area you are observing is likely a part of the normal healing process. After a tooth extraction, the body initiates a healing response, which includes the formation of granulation tissue. This tissue is often white or pale in color and can appear around the extraction site, especially near the stitches. It is a sign that your body is working to repair the area, and it typically does not indicate any issues if there is no pain or discomfort associated with it.

Another possibility is that the white spot could be related to the presence of fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting. After an extraction, a blood clot forms in the socket to protect the underlying bone and nerves. As healing progresses, this clot can appear white or yellowish as it breaks down and is replaced by new tissue. This is a normal part of the healing process.

While you mentioned that you have only consumed milk and rice porridge post-extraction, it's still possible for small food particles to get trapped around the stitches, especially if you are not able to rinse thoroughly. However, since you have been rinsing your mouth with water, it is less likely that food debris is the cause of the white spot. If you notice any foul odor or an increase in discomfort, it may indicate an infection, which would require further evaluation by your dentist.

It's also worth noting that the presence of a white spot does not necessarily mean that you need to take any action. If the area is not painful and you are not experiencing any other symptoms such as swelling or fever, it is likely that your body is healing appropriately. However, it is always a good idea to follow up with your dentist if you have concerns. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if any additional treatment is necessary.

In summary, the white spot near your stitches after wisdom tooth extraction is likely a normal part of the healing process, possibly related to granulation tissue or fibrin. As long as you are not experiencing pain or other concerning symptoms, it is generally not a cause for alarm. However, maintaining good oral hygiene and attending follow-up appointments with your dentist will help ensure that your recovery continues smoothly. If you have any doubts or if the situation changes, do not hesitate to reach out to your dental care provider for personalized advice and reassurance.
