Scrotal Issues: Pain and Concerns After Masturbation - Urology

Scrotal issues

Hello doctor, during my last masturbation, I lifted my penis upwards to the maximum and suddenly felt something strange, a bit of pain, but I continued anyway.
Later, I noticed a small, rice-shaped lump in the thin membrane in the middle of my scrotum (the one at the base of the penis).
It seems to be growing from inside and is larger than a grain of rice.
If I don't touch it, I don't feel significant pain, but trying to squeeze it is quite painful.
It has been three days now.
What could this be? Could it be a malignant tumor? Will it heal on its own? I'm quite worried, and I haven't done anything to cause this...
Will I need surgery? Thank you for your response, doctor.

Dr. Li Xinyi reply Urology

Based on your description, it seems like a sebaceous cyst of the scrotum.
The likelihood of it being a malignant tumor is very low.
However, it is advisable to see a urologist for a thorough examination and to discuss the details with the physician.

Dear Patient,
Thank you for reaching out with your concerns regarding the recent changes you've noticed in your scrotal area following masturbation. It's understandable to feel anxious when experiencing pain or noticing unusual growths in sensitive areas of the body. Let’s break down your situation and address your concerns.

From your description, it seems you may have developed a small lump or swelling in the scrotum, which is causing you pain when touched. There are several potential explanations for this condition, and while I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, I can outline some common possibilities.

1. Epididymal Cyst or Spermatocele: These are fluid-filled sacs that can develop in the epididymis, which is located at the back of the testicle. They are typically benign and may not require treatment unless they cause discomfort.

2. Varicocele: This condition involves the enlargement of veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins in the legs. It can cause a feeling of heaviness or pain, especially after physical activity or prolonged standing.

3. Inguinal Hernia: Sometimes, a hernia can present as a lump in the scrotal area. This occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles.

4. Infection or Inflammation: Conditions like epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) or orchitis (inflammation of the testicle) can cause pain and swelling. These are often accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, warmth, or fever.

5. Tumors: While it’s natural to worry about the possibility of a tumor, most lumps in the scrotum are benign. However, any new growth should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out malignancy.

Regarding your concern about whether this will resolve on its own, it’s difficult to predict without knowing the exact nature of the lump. Some benign conditions may improve over time, while others may require medical intervention.

Next Steps: It is crucial that you schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist, who specializes in male reproductive health. They will perform a physical examination and may recommend an ultrasound or other imaging studies to better understand the nature of the lump. This will help determine the appropriate course of action, whether it be observation, medication, or possibly surgery if indicated.

In the meantime, avoid manipulating the area, as this could exacerbate any underlying condition. If you experience worsening pain, swelling, fever, or any other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

Remember, early evaluation and diagnosis are key to addressing any health concerns effectively. Please take care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to reach out for professional help.

Best wishes for your health,
