Foreskin issues
Hello Doctor, I am 15 years old.
A couple of days ago while taking a shower, I accidentally pushed my foreskin back and now it won't go back to its original position.
It is very sensitive but not painful.
Yesterday, I noticed some swelling as well.
What is this condition? Do I need to see a doctor? I'm very worried and hesitant to seek medical help.

Hello: Please go to the urology department of the hospital as soon as possible; do not delay.
If this continues, the swelling of the skin will worsen.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to foreskin issues, particularly in adolescent males, it is important to understand the anatomy and potential complications that can arise. The situation you described, where the foreskin has been retracted and is unable to return to its original position, is known as paraphimosis. This condition can occur when the foreskin is pulled back and becomes trapped behind the glans (the head of the penis).
Paraphimosis can lead to swelling and pain, and if not addressed promptly, it can cause serious complications, including restricted blood flow to the glans, which may result in tissue damage. The symptoms you mentioned, such as sensitivity and swelling, are indicative of this condition.
In general, if you find yourself in a situation where the foreskin cannot be returned to its normal position, it is advisable to seek medical help as soon as possible. A healthcare professional can assess the situation and may be able to gently manipulate the foreskin back into place. In some cases, if the swelling is significant, they may need to use a local anesthetic or other methods to relieve the condition.
It is understandable to feel anxious about seeking medical attention, especially at a young age. However, it is crucial to prioritize your health and well-being. Medical professionals are trained to handle such situations with care and confidentiality. They can provide you with the necessary treatment and guidance on how to prevent similar issues in the future.
In addition to paraphimosis, there are other foreskin-related issues that may require medical attention, such as phimosis (where the foreskin cannot be retracted over the glans) or infections. If you experience persistent pain, redness, or discharge, these could also be signs that you need to see a doctor.
In summary, based on the symptoms you've described, it is important to seek medical help. Do not hesitate to talk to a trusted adult or guardian about your concerns, as they can assist you in getting the care you need. Remember, taking care of your health is the most important thing, and medical professionals are there to help you through any issues you may face.
