Uneven coloration of the glans?

Hello doctor, I feel that the color of my glans is uneven.
The color on the outer sides of the glans is a bluish-purple, while the front of the glans is dark red.
I had a circumcision surgery over ten years ago, and during the recovery, I accidentally pulled off the ring that was placed on the glans, which caused bleeding near the corona of the glans.
I used iodine to clean it, and since then, the glans has appeared as I described.
I am unsure if this is a normal phenomenon or if it is related to the incident I mentioned.
So far, there is no pain or itching; I am just very concerned about the uneven color of the glans.
Thank you.

The uneven coloration of the glans, particularly when one observes a bluish-purple hue on the sides and a darker red on the front, can be concerning for many individuals. It’s important to understand that variations in skin color can occur for a variety of reasons, and while some may be benign, others may warrant further investigation.

Firstly, the coloration you describe could be a result of several factors, including anatomical variations, blood flow, and previous injuries. The glans penis is highly vascularized, meaning it has a rich supply of blood vessels. Changes in blood flow can lead to variations in color. For instance, increased blood flow can cause a reddish appearance, while reduced blood flow or venous congestion can lead to a bluish tint.
Your history of circumcision and the subsequent injury you mentioned could also play a role in the current appearance of your glans. Trauma to the area, such as the bleeding incident you described, can lead to localized changes in pigmentation or even scarring. Scarring can sometimes alter the way skin reflects light, contributing to the perception of uneven coloration.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that the skin on the glans is sensitive and can react to various stimuli, including friction, irritation, or infection. If there was any inflammation or irritation following your injury, it could have led to changes in pigmentation that persist over time.
In terms of medical concerns, if the area is asymptomatic—meaning there is no pain, itching, or other discomfort—this is generally a positive sign. However, it is still essential to monitor the area for any changes. If you notice any new symptoms, such as pain, discharge, or changes in texture, it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation.
In some cases, uneven coloration can be associated with conditions such as lichen sclerosus, balanitis, or other dermatological issues. These conditions may present with additional symptoms, so if you have any concerns or if the appearance of your glans changes, consulting a healthcare professional, particularly a urologist or dermatologist, would be advisable.
In conclusion, while the uneven coloration of your glans may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is essential to remain vigilant and consult a healthcare provider if you have any doubts or if the situation changes. Regular self-examinations and awareness of your body can help you identify any potential issues early on. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
