I am experiencing issues with my eyes?
Dear Doctor,
I am experiencing some issues with my vision.
A few days ago, while focusing on something directly in front of me, the central part of my vision became blurry, as if there were light spreading from the edges.
Additionally, in dark environments, my eyes feel much more strained than before.
Lastly, when I observe moving objects, they appear much blurrier than they used to.
I am also experiencing some accompanying symptoms, such as dizziness, chest pain, and dry eyes.

Blurry vision can be a concerning symptom, and it is essential to understand the potential causes and implications. Based on your description, several factors could contribute to your visual disturbances, and I will address them in detail.
1. Blurry Vision: The blurriness you experience, particularly when focusing on objects, could be related to several conditions. Common causes include refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism. These conditions can cause images to appear out of focus, especially when the eye is strained or tired. Additionally, if you have not had an eye exam recently, it might be worthwhile to check if your prescription needs updating.
2. Visual Disturbances in Low Light: Difficulty seeing in dark environments, known as night blindness or nyctalopia, can be a sign of several underlying issues. Conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, vitamin A deficiency, or even cataracts can affect your ability to see in low light. If your pupils are not dilating properly in dim light, it may also contribute to your difficulties.
3. Moving Objects: Blurriness when watching moving objects can be attributed to several factors, including motion blur, which is a common phenomenon when the eyes cannot track moving objects smoothly. This can be exacerbated by fatigue or eye strain, particularly if you have been spending long hours in front of screens. If you have underlying conditions like nystagmus (involuntary eye movement), this could also contribute to the blurriness.
4. Associated Symptoms: The symptoms you mentioned, such as dizziness, chest pains, and dry eyes, warrant further investigation. Dizziness can sometimes be linked to visual disturbances, especially if there is a problem with how your eyes and brain are coordinating visual information. Chest pains, while not directly related to eye issues, should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out any serious conditions. Dry eyes can be caused by prolonged screen time, environmental factors, or underlying conditions like Sjögren's syndrome. Using artificial tears can help alleviate this symptom.
5. Stress and Anxiety: Given that you mentioned feeling dizzy and experiencing chest pains, it is also essential to consider the role of stress and anxiety. These can manifest physically and may exacerbate your perception of visual disturbances. Stress can lead to muscle tension, including around the eyes, which can contribute to discomfort and blurry vision.
6. Next Steps: It is crucial to schedule a comprehensive eye examination with an eye care professional. They can perform tests to assess your vision, check for refractive errors, and evaluate the health of your eyes. If necessary, they may refer you to a specialist for further evaluation of your symptoms, especially concerning the dizziness and chest pains.
In summary, blurry vision can arise from various causes, including refractive errors, eye strain, and underlying health conditions. Given your additional symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice promptly to ensure a thorough evaluation and appropriate management. Taking care of your eye health is vital, especially if you are experiencing persistent symptoms that affect your daily life.
