Can I get pregnant?

Hello, I would like to ask about my menstrual cycle.
My period started on September 20, with a cycle length of 29 days and lasting 5-6 days.
I had sexual intercourse on September 30, October 2, October 4, and October 6 (only on the 6th there was no ejaculation inside).
I used a pregnancy test on October 16, which showed a negative result.
My period did not arrive on October 19, and I tested again on October 22, which also showed a negative result.
Does this indicate a high likelihood of not being pregnant? Thank you.

CANDY, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2019/10/22

When it comes to determining whether you might be pregnant after engaging in unprotected sex, there are several factors to consider, including the timing of your menstrual cycle, the timing of ovulation, and the results of any pregnancy tests you have taken.

Based on the information you provided, your last menstrual period started on September 20, and you have a typical cycle length of 29 days. This means that you would likely ovulate around October 5, give or take a day or two, as ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the start of your next period. Since you had unprotected sex on October 2, 4, and 6, you were within your fertile window, which is the time when you are most likely to conceive.

You mentioned that you took a pregnancy test on October 16, which was negative, and then again on October 22, which was also negative. Given that your period was due around October 19 and has not arrived, it is understandable to be concerned about the possibility of pregnancy. However, the negative results from the pregnancy tests you took are significant.

Pregnancy tests work by detecting the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine, which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Typically, hCG levels become detectable in urine about 14 days after conception. Since you tested negative on October 16 and 22, it suggests that either you are not pregnant or that it is still too early for the test to detect the hormone if conception occurred later than expected.

It is also important to consider the possibility of a late period, which can happen for various reasons, including stress, hormonal imbalances, or changes in weight or lifestyle. If your period does not arrive within a few days after your expected date, it may be worthwhile to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend a blood test, which can detect pregnancy earlier and more accurately than home urine tests.

In summary, based on the negative pregnancy tests and the timing of your menstrual cycle, the likelihood of being pregnant seems low. However, if you continue to experience missed periods or have any other symptoms of pregnancy, it is advisable to seek medical advice. Your healthcare provider can offer guidance and support, ensuring that you receive the appropriate care based on your individual circumstances. Remember, it is always better to consult with a professional if you have concerns about your reproductive health.
