Vaginal bleeding
Hello, I would like to ask about experiencing vaginal bleeding during bowel movements 7-10 days before my period for the past three consecutive months (I have confirmed it is not rectal bleeding).
The discharge is yellow-green.
I consulted a gynecologist who mentioned it is a hormonal imbalance and prescribed medication three times, but it seems there has been no improvement.
I have not engaged in sexual intercourse and am afraid of a pelvic exam.
I'm worried it could be something serious like cancer…

Abnormal vaginal bleeding can be a source of significant concern for many women, especially when it occurs outside of the normal menstrual cycle. Your description of experiencing bleeding 7-10 days before your period, accompanied by yellow-green discharge, suggests that there may be underlying issues that need to be addressed.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that abnormal vaginal bleeding can arise from a variety of causes. Some common reasons include hormonal imbalances, infections, structural abnormalities, and, in some cases, more serious conditions such as polyps or fibroids. Given that you have already consulted with a gynecologist and were told that your symptoms are likely due to a hormonal imbalance, it’s essential to consider what this means.
Hormonal imbalances can occur for several reasons, including stress, changes in weight, excessive exercise, or underlying medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). These imbalances can lead to irregular ovulation, which may cause unexpected bleeding. The yellow-green discharge you mentioned could indicate an infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI), even if you have not engaged in sexual activity. Infections can cause inflammation and irritation, leading to abnormal bleeding.
If the medications prescribed by your doctor have not improved your symptoms, it may be necessary to revisit your healthcare provider for further evaluation. It’s understandable to feel apprehensive about pelvic exams, but they are crucial for diagnosing potential issues. A thorough examination can help rule out conditions such as cervical polyps, fibroids, or even signs of infection that may not be apparent through other means.
Additionally, if you are experiencing persistent symptoms, it may be beneficial to request further testing. This could include blood tests to check hormone levels, a pelvic ultrasound to visualize the reproductive organs, or a Pap smear if appropriate. These tests can provide more information about your reproductive health and help identify any underlying issues that may be contributing to your symptoms.
It’s also important to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your fears and concerns. If you are worried about serious conditions such as cancer, expressing these concerns can help your doctor understand the urgency of your situation and guide you toward the appropriate diagnostic steps.
In the meantime, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can support your overall well-being and potentially help regulate your menstrual cycle. This includes managing stress through relaxation techniques, maintaining a balanced diet, and engaging in regular physical activity.
In summary, while abnormal vaginal bleeding can be alarming, it is often manageable with the right medical care. It’s crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider, discuss your symptoms in detail, and undergo any recommended examinations or tests. By doing so, you can gain clarity about your condition and take the necessary steps toward treatment and recovery. Remember, your health is paramount, and seeking help is a vital part of ensuring your well-being.
