Red spots on the clitoris?
Hello Doctor: Yesterday I noticed that if my underwear rubs against my clitoris, it hurts.
Last night, I looked in the mirror and saw no abnormalities, but when I pulled back the foreskin, I noticed several red spots (currently, there are 3 on the inner foreskin and 2 on the clitoris).
What could be causing this? Recently, I have also experienced ulcers in my genital area, and the doctor suggested that I might consider getting tested for Behçet's disease in the future.
Could the red spots on my clitoris be related to Behçet's disease? Thank you, Doctor.

Vaginal lesions are the most common conditions affecting women, influenced by various factors.
Treatment methods require comprehensive health education, and it is recommended to seek evaluation from a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at an outpatient clinic.
Bacterial vaginosis is not a common condition in Taiwan and is rarely considered as a primary diagnostic consideration.

When it comes to understanding red spots on the clitoris and their potential causes, it's essential to consider various factors that could contribute to this condition. The presence of red spots, particularly if they are accompanied by pain or discomfort, can be concerning and warrants a thorough examination.
Firstly, the red spots you are observing on the clitoris and the inner foreskin could be attributed to several benign causes. One common reason for red spots in the genital area is friction or irritation, especially if there has been increased activity or tight clothing that may cause chafing. This can lead to localized inflammation, resulting in red spots or bumps. Additionally, conditions such as folliculitis, which is the inflammation of hair follicles, can also manifest as red spots in the genital region.
Another possibility is the presence of a sexually transmitted infection (STI), which can cause lesions or spots in the genital area. STIs such as herpes or human papillomavirus (HPV) can lead to the development of red or painful spots. If you have had unprotected sexual contact, it is advisable to get tested for STIs to rule out these possibilities.
You mentioned experiencing ulcers in the genital area, which could be related to various conditions, including Behçet's disease. Behçet's disease is a systemic condition that can cause recurrent oral and genital ulcers, along with other symptoms like skin lesions and eye inflammation. The connection between the red spots on the clitoris and Behçet's disease is plausible, especially if you have a history of ulcers in other areas. It is crucial to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare provider, who may recommend further testing or a referral to a specialist for a comprehensive evaluation.
In terms of self-care, it is essential to maintain good hygiene in the genital area. Avoid using harsh soaps or scented products that could irritate the sensitive skin. Wearing breathable, cotton underwear can help reduce friction and moisture, which may alleviate irritation. If the red spots are painful or persist, it is advisable to avoid any activities that may exacerbate the condition, such as tight clothing or vigorous sexual activity, until you have consulted with a healthcare professional.
If the red spots are accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, significant pain, or discharge, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination, take a detailed medical history, and possibly conduct tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
In summary, while red spots on the clitoris can arise from various benign causes, they may also indicate underlying conditions that require medical attention. Given your history of ulcers and the potential connection to Behçet's disease, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Early intervention can help address any concerns and ensure your overall health and well-being.
