Frenulum problems of the glans?

Hello, I had a circumcision surgery last Wednesday, and today is the fifth day.
When I apply medication or retract the glans, it hurts.
Is this normal?

After undergoing frenulum surgery, it is common to experience some degree of pain and discomfort during the healing process. The frenulum, which is the band of tissue that connects the underside of the penis to the glans (the head), can be sensitive, and surgical intervention can lead to temporary pain, swelling, and tenderness in the area.

Typically, post-operative pain should gradually decrease over time. In the first few days following surgery, it is not unusual to feel sharp or throbbing pain, especially when touching the area or when the glans is retracted. This pain can be exacerbated by activities such as applying ointment or stretching the skin, as you described. The healing process involves the formation of scar tissue, which can also contribute to discomfort.

Here are some important points to consider regarding your recovery:
1. Pain Management: It is essential to manage pain effectively during the recovery period. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can help alleviate discomfort. Always follow your healthcare provider's recommendations regarding medication.

2. Swelling and Bruising: Mild swelling and bruising are normal after surgery. If the swelling is significant or accompanied by severe pain, it may indicate a complication, such as infection or hematoma (a collection of blood outside of blood vessels).

3. Signs of Infection: Monitor the surgical site for signs of infection, which can include increased redness, warmth, swelling, pus or discharge, and fever. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is crucial to contact your healthcare provider promptly.

4. Healing Timeline: The healing process can vary from person to person. Generally, initial discomfort should start to improve within a week or two. However, sensitivity in the area may persist for a longer period as the tissues continue to heal.

5. Follow-Up Care: It is important to attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your surgeon. They can assess your healing progress and address any concerns you may have. If your pain worsens or does not improve, or if you have any new symptoms, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider.

6. Activity Restrictions: During the healing phase, it is advisable to avoid activities that may strain the surgical site, such as vigorous sexual activity or heavy lifting. Gentle care and avoiding excessive manipulation of the area can help promote healing.

In summary, while some pain and discomfort after frenulum surgery is normal, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you have concerns about the intensity of your pain or any other symptoms, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and guidance. They can provide reassurance and ensure that your recovery is on track.
