Can I switch brands of birth control pills halfway through the pack?
I have been taking Yaz for over a year, and this time I switched to Loestrin as recommended by the pharmacy, starting from the first day of my period.
After about a week of taking it, I noticed that my menstrual cycle became very irregular; it originally lasted 3-5 days, but this time it has lasted 12 days and is still ongoing, plus I am starting to develop acne.
I feel that Loestrin may not be suitable for me.
Can I switch back to Yaz during the course of taking the medication? Will it affect the contraceptive effectiveness or cause any physical discomfort?

You can switch brands, but the effects after taking them may differ from using only one brand.
There may be abnormal bleeding either before or during the course of taking them.

Switching birth control brands mid-cycle can be a concern for many women, especially if they experience side effects or irregularities after the switch. In your case, you've been taking a birth control pill called "悦姿" (Yuezi) for over a year and have recently switched to "洛伊欣" (Luoixin) at the recommendation of your pharmacy. After about a week on the new pill, you've noticed significant changes in your menstrual cycle and skin condition, which has raised concerns about whether you should switch back to your previous birth control.
First, it's important to understand how birth control pills work. Most combination oral contraceptives contain hormones (estrogen and progestin) that prevent ovulation, regulate menstrual cycles, and can also help with acne. When switching between different brands or formulations, your body may need time to adjust to the new hormone levels, which can lead to side effects such as irregular bleeding, mood changes, or skin issues like acne.
In general, if you decide to switch back to your previous birth control pill, you can do so, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind:
1. Timing of the Switch: If you are in the middle of a pack of "洛伊欣," it is usually recommended to finish that pack before switching back to "悦姿." However, if you are experiencing significant side effects, you may choose to stop taking the new pill and start the old one immediately. If you do this, you should use a backup method of contraception (like condoms) for at least seven days after switching back to ensure you remain protected against pregnancy.
2. Effectiveness: Switching back to "悦姿" should not affect the contraceptive effectiveness as long as you follow the proper guidelines for switching. However, if you switch mid-cycle, be aware that your body may take some time to readjust, and you may experience some irregularities in your cycle initially.
3. Consult Your Healthcare Provider: It's always best to discuss any changes in your birth control regimen with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status. If you are experiencing adverse effects from "洛伊欣," your doctor may suggest alternative options that may be better suited for you.
4. Monitoring Side Effects: After switching back to "悦姿," monitor your body’s response. If you continue to experience irregular periods or other side effects, it may be worth revisiting your healthcare provider to discuss other birth control options or potential underlying issues that may need to be addressed.
5. Skin Issues: If you are experiencing acne as a side effect of the new pill, switching back to "悦姿" may help, as some formulations are better for skin health than others. However, it may take a few cycles to see improvement in your skin condition after switching back.
In summary, you can switch back to "悦姿" from "洛伊欣," but be mindful of the timing and use backup contraception if you switch mid-pack. Always consult with your healthcare provider for the best course of action tailored to your specific situation. They can help ensure that you find a birth control method that works well for you without unwanted side effects.
