Issues Related to Semen and Hair
Hello Doctor, I recently started to masturbate and have three questions to ask you.
First, based on my observations over the past two months, I do it about once every 1-2 weeks.
Is this normal for a student? My classmates say they do it many times, but I don't feel the urge to do it that often.
Secondly, the color of my semen is slightly whitish, and when I wipe it off with tissue, there is a faint yellow tint.
Is this a concern? Also, sometimes when I just have an erection, a clear, sticky fluid comes out.
Should I wash that off as well? Lastly, I would like to know if male pubic hair needs to be trimmed.
I notice a few hairs growing on my scrotum, but I'm not sure if I need to manage them or if they will keep growing like hair on my head.
I apologize for interrupting your rest during the holiday.
Thank you for your response!

Hello: 1) The frequency of masturbation is not a concern as long as it does not interfere with learning and work.
2) The color is not relevant; it can be wiped away.
3) There is no need to trim; some people do shave, but it will grow back to a certain length.
It cannot grow indefinitely long.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to concerns about hair loss and semen, especially among young men, it's important to address these topics with accurate information and reassurance.
Firstly, regarding hair loss, it is indeed possible for young men to experience male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia. This condition can begin in the late teens or early twenties and is often influenced by genetic factors. If you have a family history of hair loss, particularly on your father's side, you may be at a higher risk. The signs of male pattern baldness typically include a receding hairline and thinning at the crown of the head. If you notice that your hairline is receding or that your hair is thinning, it may be worth consulting a dermatologist or a healthcare provider who specializes in hair loss. They can provide you with options for treatment, which may include topical solutions like minoxidil or oral medications such as finasteride.
Now, addressing your questions about semen and related concerns:
1. Frequency of Masturbation: It is completely normal for young men to masturbate, and the frequency can vary widely from person to person. Masturbating once every one to two weeks is within the normal range, especially if you do not feel a strong urge to do it more often. It's important to listen to your body and do what feels right for you. There is no "correct" frequency; it varies based on individual libido and personal circumstances.
2. Semen Color and Consistency: The color of semen can vary and is typically a whitish color. A slight yellow tint can be normal and may be influenced by factors such as diet, hydration, and the presence of certain substances in the body. If you notice significant changes in color, consistency, or if you experience discomfort, it may be wise to consult a healthcare provider. The clear, sticky fluid you mentioned is likely pre-ejaculatory fluid, which is also normal and serves to lubricate the urethra. It’s not necessary to wash it off unless you feel uncomfortable.
3. Pubic Hair Grooming: Regarding the grooming of pubic hair, this is a personal choice. Some men prefer to trim or shave their pubic hair for aesthetic reasons or comfort, while others choose to leave it natural. Pubic hair does grow like hair on your head, and it can be trimmed if you feel it’s getting too long or if you prefer a tidier appearance. However, there are no health requirements to trim or shave pubic hair unless it is causing discomfort or hygiene issues.
In summary, your concerns about hair loss and semen are common among young men. It's essential to understand that variations in hair growth and semen characteristics are normal. If you have persistent concerns, especially regarding hair loss or changes in your body, seeking advice from a healthcare professional can provide clarity and peace of mind. Remember, taking care of your mental and physical health is crucial during these formative years, and being informed is a significant step in that direction.
