Post-circumcision care
Hello doctor, I had a circumcision two weeks ago and it's almost healed (except for the stitches that haven't completely dissolved).
I want to ask about a tight feeling along a cord at the back of my penis (connecting to the testicles).
I can feel it whether or not I have an erection, but it's not painful, just a bit uncomfortable.
Is this a normal phenomenon after the procedure? Will sexual activity cause it to rupture?

Hello: Theoretically, aside from the area around the incision from the circumcision, there may be a tight sensation, especially during an erection.
In the area you mentioned, there should not be any sensation.
Wishing you good health.
If it is not near the incision, it should not rupture.

More Info
Post-circumcision recovery can indeed involve a range of sensations, including tightness and discomfort, particularly in the area around the glans and the shaft of the penis. It is not uncommon for patients to experience a feeling of tightness or tension in the skin or connective tissue after the procedure, especially if the circumcision was performed recently.
The sensation you are describing, where you feel a tightness or a "string" connecting to the testicles, could be related to the healing process of the skin and underlying tissues. After circumcision, the skin that was previously covering the glans is now exposed, and the surrounding tissues may take some time to adjust to this change. The tightness you feel could be due to the healing of the circumcision site, as well as the adjustment of the skin and connective tissues in that area.
It is important to note that while some discomfort and tightness can be normal, it should not be accompanied by severe pain, swelling, or signs of infection (such as redness, warmth, or discharge). If you are experiencing only mild discomfort and no other concerning symptoms, it is likely within the range of normal post-operative sensations.
Regarding your concern about sexual activity and the possibility of the tissue "tearing" or "rupturing," it is generally safe to resume sexual activity once you feel comfortable and have received clearance from your healthcare provider. However, it is advisable to wait until you are fully healed, which can take several weeks. Engaging in sexual activity too soon may increase the risk of discomfort or injury to the healing tissues.
If the tightness persists or worsens, or if you experience any new symptoms, it would be wise to consult your healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and provide guidance tailored to your specific situation.
In summary, mild tightness and discomfort after circumcision can be a normal part of the healing process. However, if you have any concerns or experience significant discomfort, it is always best to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and reassurance. They can help ensure that your recovery is progressing well and address any specific questions you may have about your healing process and resuming sexual activity.
