Post-operative care after laser treatment for molluscum contagiosum?

Hello, doctor.
I had a laser surgery for molluscum contagiosum the day before yesterday, and currently, my entire penis is swollen, especially around the glans and the frenulum, where the swelling is particularly severe.
It looks quite exaggerated, and some of the wounds are still bleeding a little.
I would like to know if this is normal.
My surgeon mentioned that the swelling is due to the anesthesia and that it could last for 1-2 weeks.
Is it really going to last that long? This makes it inconvenient for me to move around for work.

Hello: Due to the anesthesia, circulation may be poor after the surgery, leading to swelling.
It will take some time, but as long as you keep the area clean and dry, it will gradually improve, provided that the wound is dry and free of discharge.
You can rest assured.
As for activity, you can use a gauze bandage.
It will get better.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

After undergoing laser surgery for molluscum contagiosum, it is not uncommon to experience swelling and some bleeding in the treated area. The swelling you are experiencing, especially around the glans and the frenulum, can be attributed to the surgical procedure itself and the local anesthesia used during the operation. Here are some key points to consider regarding your post-operative care and what to expect:
1. Swelling and Bruising: It is typical for the area to swell after laser surgery. This can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the extent of the procedure and your individual healing response. The swelling is a natural part of the healing process as your body responds to the trauma of surgery.

2. Bleeding: A small amount of bleeding from the surgical site can also be expected, especially in the first few days post-surgery. However, if the bleeding is significant or does not subside, you should contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

3. Pain Management: You may experience discomfort or pain in the treated area. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can help manage this discomfort. However, always follow your doctor's recommendations regarding medication.

4. Hygiene: Keeping the area clean is crucial to prevent infection. You should follow your doctor's instructions on how to clean the area gently. Avoid using harsh soaps or scrubbing the area until it has healed.

5. Activity Restrictions: It is advisable to avoid strenuous activities, including heavy lifting or vigorous exercise, for at least a week or until your doctor gives you the green light. This will help minimize swelling and promote healing.

6. Follow-Up Appointments: Make sure to attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider. They will assess your healing progress and address any concerns you may have.

7. Signs of Infection: Be vigilant for signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, swelling, or discharge that is yellow or green in color. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

8. Duration of Symptoms: While swelling can last for 1-2 weeks, individual healing times can vary. If your symptoms persist beyond this timeframe or worsen, it is essential to seek medical advice.

9. Work Considerations: If your job involves physical activity or requires you to be on your feet for extended periods, you may need to discuss your situation with your employer. Depending on the nature of your work, you might need to take some time off or modify your duties until you feel more comfortable.

In summary, while some swelling and bleeding are normal after laser surgery for molluscum contagiosum, it is essential to monitor your symptoms and maintain communication with your healthcare provider. If you have any concerns about your recovery or if your symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out for professional medical advice. Your health and comfort should always be a priority during the healing process.
