Blurred vision
Hello Doctor, due to the summer vacation, my daily routine has been irregular.
A few days ago, when I woke up and opened my eyes, I suddenly experienced a sharp pain in my left eye, accompanied by tearing.
The pain lasted for about a minute and then subsided.
However, a few days later, my left eye started to feel blurry (similar to nearsightedness), but even with my glasses on, the situation remains the same.
When I look at screen subtitles, I notice a halo effect (only in my left eye; my right eye is normal).
Although I visited an ophthalmologist, the doctor said it was an eye inflammation and prescribed eye drops, but after using them for several days, there has been no improvement.
Thank you, Doctor.

More Info
Blurry vision and eye pain can be distressing symptoms, and understanding their potential causes and treatments is crucial for effective management. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing a combination of symptoms in your left eye, including sudden pain, tearing, and persistent blurry vision, despite wearing corrective lenses. The presence of halos around lights when viewing screens further complicates the situation.
Potential Causes
1. Inflammation: The eye doctor mentioned inflammation, which could be due to several conditions such as conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva), uveitis (inflammation of the uveal tract), or keratitis (inflammation of the cornea). Inflammation can lead to symptoms like pain, tearing, and blurred vision.
2. Corneal Issues: Conditions affecting the cornea, such as corneal abrasions or infections, can cause sharp pain and visual disturbances. If the cornea is damaged or inflamed, it may not refract light properly, leading to blurry vision.
3. Dry Eye Syndrome: This condition can cause discomfort and visual disturbances. If your tear film is inadequate, it can lead to symptoms like pain, tearing, and blurry vision, especially when using screens.
4. Refractive Errors: Even with glasses, if your prescription is not accurate or if there has been a change in your vision, you may experience blurry vision. It’s essential to have your prescription checked regularly.
5. Retinal Issues: Although less common, issues with the retina, such as retinal detachment or tears, can lead to sudden changes in vision and should be evaluated promptly.
Recommended Treatments
1. Follow-Up with an Eye Specialist: Since your symptoms have not improved with the prescribed eye drops, it is essential to return to your eye doctor or seek a second opinion. They may perform additional tests, such as a slit-lamp examination, to assess the health of your cornea and retina more thoroughly.
2. Medication: If inflammation is confirmed, your doctor may prescribe stronger anti-inflammatory medications or corticosteroid eye drops. If an infection is suspected, antibiotic drops may be necessary.
3. Artificial Tears: If dry eye syndrome is contributing to your symptoms, using preservative-free artificial tears can help lubricate the eye and alleviate discomfort.
4. Rest and Eye Care: Ensure you are taking regular breaks from screens and practicing the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This can help reduce eye strain.
5. Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes: Rubbing can exacerbate inflammation and lead to further irritation or injury.
6. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms, including the intensity of pain, changes in vision, or the appearance of new symptoms like flashes of light or floaters, and report these to your doctor.
Conclusion
In summary, blurry vision and eye pain can arise from various underlying conditions, and it is crucial to identify the specific cause to determine the appropriate treatment. Since your symptoms have persisted despite initial treatment, a follow-up with an eye care professional is warranted. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation and tailor a treatment plan to address your specific needs. Remember, early intervention can often prevent more serious complications, so do not hesitate to seek further medical advice.
