Cardiac rhythm issues
Hello, doctor! Recently, when measuring my blood pressure, I noticed that the irregular pulse wave indicator on the blood pressure monitor lit up (which it didn't before).
During these episodes, my heart rate increases to around 80-90 beats per minute.
When I manually check my pulse, I find that it is neither too fast nor too slow, but sometimes there are missed beats and irregularities.
These episodes last about an hour before returning to normal, and they often occur after dinner (about two to three times a month).
I also frequently experience severe bloating, and I'm not sure if it could be affecting this.
I have been diagnosed with chronic gastritis and Helicobacter pylori after undergoing an endoscopy! Additionally, I often feel my heartbeat in my neck after eating, and while my heart rate is normal, the beats are very strong and uncomfortable! I have taken medications for gastric bloating that can provide relief, but sometimes they do not help! I would like to ask if this neck pulsation and bloating could be related, or if it indicates a heart problem? Also, I have been experiencing long-term tinnitus and often feel a sensation of floating or weightlessness; does this type of dizziness relate to my heart? I have chronic sinusitis and have had an MRI that showed fluid in the sinuses! There is also long-term swelling of the lymph nodes in the left posterior neck.
I'm not sure if there is any connection! Thank you, doctor.
🙏

Hello, regarding your inquiry about "recently noticing an irregular pulse waveform indicator on the blood pressure monitor," the irregular pulse you mentioned, which is neither fast nor slow and sometimes skips beats, could be a clue to arrhythmia.
However, many individuals with arrhythmias may not experience any noticeable symptoms.
It would be advisable to consult with your trusted family physician to determine whether a referral to a cardiologist for further evaluation is necessary.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare Changhua Hospital is concerned about your well-being.

Understanding irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmias, can be complex, especially when accompanied by other symptoms such as gastrointestinal issues, neck pulsations, and chronic conditions like sinusitis. Your description indicates a multifaceted situation that may involve both cardiac and non-cardiac factors.
Firstly, irregular heartbeats can arise from various causes, including stress, anxiety, caffeine intake, and underlying medical conditions. In your case, you mentioned experiencing episodes of increased heart rate (80-90 beats per minute) and irregular pulse patterns, particularly after meals. This could suggest a few possibilities.
One potential cause of your symptoms could be related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or gastritis, which you noted you have. When the stomach is distended or inflamed, it can exert pressure on the diaphragm and heart, leading to sensations of palpitations or irregular heartbeats. The vagus nerve, which runs from the brain to the abdomen, can also be stimulated by gastric distension, potentially causing changes in heart rhythm. This could explain why you feel your heart racing or pounding after meals, especially if you are experiencing significant bloating.
Moreover, the chronic gastritis and presence of Helicobacter pylori could contribute to your discomfort. H. pylori infection is known to cause inflammation of the stomach lining, which can lead to symptoms such as bloating, pain, and discomfort. Treating this infection may alleviate some of your gastrointestinal symptoms, which in turn could help with the heart-related sensations you are experiencing.
Regarding the neck pulsation you mentioned, this could be a result of heightened awareness of your heartbeat, especially if you are anxious or stressed. It is not uncommon for individuals to feel their pulse more prominently in the neck during episodes of anxiety or when experiencing palpitations. However, if this sensation is persistent or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
The ear ringing (tinnitus) and feelings of dizziness you described could also be interconnected. Chronic sinusitis can lead to pressure changes in the head and neck, which might contribute to both tinnitus and dizziness. While these symptoms are not directly linked to heart issues, they can certainly coexist with cardiovascular symptoms, especially if there is a significant amount of stress or anxiety involved.
In terms of your blood pressure readings showing irregular pulse patterns, it is essential to monitor these closely. Irregularities can sometimes indicate underlying heart conditions, but they can also be benign, especially if they are transient and resolve on their own. It is crucial to maintain regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider, particularly if these episodes increase in frequency or severity.
In summary, while your symptoms could potentially be related to heart issues, they may also stem from gastrointestinal problems, anxiety, or other non-cardiac factors. It is advisable to keep a detailed log of your symptoms, including when they occur, their duration, and any associated factors (like meals or stress levels). This information can be invaluable for your healthcare provider in determining the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Additionally, addressing your gastrointestinal issues may provide relief from both your digestive and cardiac symptoms. Regular check-ups and open communication with your healthcare provider are key to managing your health effectively.
