Uncertain if there are any fish bones?
A couple of days ago, I ate a lot of dried fish with bones, and despite being careful, I still got pricked by a bone.
At that moment, I felt the bone was in my throat; it wasn't very deep, but before I could react, I swallowed another bite of food.
I tried to cough lightly a couple of times, but it didn't seem to help, so I decided to finish my meal.
Initially, there was a vague pain, not very noticeable, and when I woke up the next day for breakfast, I didn't feel much discomfort.
However, by noon, when I swallowed a large bite of rice forcefully, I felt a bit of discomfort (possibly because I have enlarged tonsils), and suddenly remembered that I might have accidentally swallowed a fish bone.
This made me very anxious, and the discomfort in my throat became more pronounced.
Since the discomfort was in my throat, I held onto the hope that if the fish bone was still there, I could cough it out, so I kept coughing forcefully.
As of today, my throat feels swollen (but swallowing is normal), and it feels somewhat like the pain of a cold, but I still feel like there's a fish bone stuck in a certain spot in my throat (I checked my throat and noticed a wound).
My ear also hurts a bit (possibly because I often dig in my ears and have caused a wound).
I looked online and found many cases where people didn't seek medical attention in time or swallowed food that ended up in the esophagus, but there were also reports that in children, the bones often end up on the tonsils and eventually fall out on their own.
Although I have enlarged tonsils, I am already 15 years old, so I'm not a child anymore.
I've been busy with tutoring and haven't had time to see a doctor, so I wanted to ask online if this sensation is more likely just a scratch or if there is really a fish bone stuck or even embedded in my throat?

More Info
It sounds like you are experiencing a very uncomfortable situation after potentially swallowing a fish bone. Based on your description, it is possible that you may have a fish bone lodged in your throat or esophagus, or you could simply be experiencing irritation or injury from the fish bone. Let’s break down your symptoms and what you should consider doing next.
Symptoms and Possible Causes
1. Initial Discomfort: You mentioned feeling a sharp sensation in your throat immediately after eating the fish. This is a common reaction when a foreign object, like a fish bone, gets lodged in the throat. The sensation can range from mild discomfort to sharp pain.
2. Swallowing Difficulties: The fact that you felt a sensation of something being stuck when you swallowed a large bite of food is significant. This could indicate that the fish bone is indeed lodged in your throat or esophagus, causing a blockage or irritation.
3. Throat Pain and Swelling: The swelling and pain you describe, which feels similar to a sore throat, could be due to inflammation caused by the fish bone. If the bone has caused a scratch or injury to the lining of your throat, it could lead to further irritation and swelling.
4. Ear Pain: The pain in your ear could be referred pain from the throat, which is not uncommon. The throat and ears are closely connected, and irritation in the throat can sometimes manifest as ear pain.
5. Visual Inspection: You mentioned seeing a wound in your throat, which could be a sign of trauma from the fish bone. If the injury is significant, it may require medical attention.
What to Do Next
1. Do Not Panic: While it’s understandable to feel anxious about the possibility of a fish bone being stuck, try to remain calm. Many cases of fish bone ingestion resolve without serious complications.
2. Avoid Further Irritation: Refrain from eating solid foods that could exacerbate the irritation. Soft foods or liquids may be easier to swallow and less likely to cause further discomfort.
3. Coughing and Gagging: While you have tried to cough it out, be cautious with aggressive coughing or gagging, as this could push the bone further down or cause additional injury.
4. Seek Medical Attention: Given that you have persistent discomfort, swelling, and a visible injury in your throat, it is advisable to see a healthcare professional. An ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist can perform a thorough examination, possibly using a laryngoscope to visualize the throat and determine if a fish bone is present.
5. Imaging Studies: If necessary, your doctor may recommend imaging studies, such as X-rays or a CT scan, to locate the fish bone and assess any potential damage to your throat or esophagus.
6. Treatment Options: If a fish bone is found, it can often be removed in a straightforward manner. If there is significant injury or infection, additional treatment may be required, such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications.
Conclusion
In summary, while it is possible that you have a fish bone lodged in your throat, it is also possible that you are experiencing irritation from the incident. Given your symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention to ensure that any potential injury is properly evaluated and treated. Do not delay in getting help, as timely intervention can prevent complications and provide you with relief from your symptoms.
