Pregnancy probability
Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask about my irregular menstrual cycle, which makes it difficult to determine my ovulation period for pregnancy preparation.
My recent menstrual dates are from August 22 to August 28 and from September 9 to September 18.
I had unprotected intercourse with ejaculation inside on September 9, September 10, and September 23.
I used ovulation test strips from September 20 to October 2, which showed a strong positive result from September 30 to October 2, while the other days showed a weak positive.
Does this indicate that my ovulation days are at the end and beginning of the month? Or does the three days of strong positive suggest that I may already be pregnant? Should I have intercourse again during these two days to increase the chances of conception? I would appreciate your clarification, doctor.

More Info
Understanding ovulation and the chances of pregnancy can be quite complex, especially for individuals with irregular menstrual cycles. Based on the information you provided, let's break down the key aspects of your situation.
Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation
Your menstrual cycle appears to be irregular, with periods occurring from August 22 to August 28 and then from September 9 to September 18. Typically, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of your next period. However, with irregular cycles, pinpointing the exact ovulation day can be challenging.
Ovulation Testing
You mentioned using ovulation test strips from September 20 to October 2, with strong positive results from September 30 to October 2. A strong positive on an ovulation test indicates that your body is surging with luteinizing hormone (LH), which typically precedes ovulation by about 12 to 36 hours. Therefore, if you received strong positive results on those dates, it is likely that ovulation occurred around September 30 to October 1.
Timing of Intercourse
You had unprotected intercourse on September 9, 10, and 23. Since ovulation likely occurred around September 30 to October 1, the intercourse on September 9 and 10 would be too early to result in pregnancy, as sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, but not typically longer. The intercourse on September 23 is closer to your ovulation window, making it a more viable opportunity for conception.
Chances of Pregnancy
Given that you had intercourse on September 23 and ovulation likely occurred shortly after, there is a possibility of pregnancy. However, the strongest chances of conception occur when intercourse happens within the fertile window, which is typically the five days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. Since you had strong positive results on your ovulation tests from September 30 to October 2, having intercourse on those days would have maximized your chances of conception.
Recommendations
1. Timing of Intercourse: If you are trying to conceive, it is advisable to have intercourse during your fertile window, which includes the days leading up to and including ovulation. Since you had strong positives on your ovulation tests, consider having intercourse during that time frame in future cycles.
2. Tracking Ovulation: Continue using ovulation tests to help identify your fertile window. Keeping a record of your menstrual cycle and ovulation test results can help you better predict ovulation in future cycles.
3. Consulting a Healthcare Provider: If you continue to experience irregular cycles or have concerns about fertility, it may be beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider or a fertility specialist. They can provide personalized advice and may suggest further testing or interventions if necessary.
4. Healthy Lifestyle: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol consumption, can improve your overall reproductive health and increase your chances of conception.
5. Patience and Timing: Remember that conception can take time, even for couples who are actively trying. If you do not conceive in the next few cycles, it may be worth seeking further evaluation.
In summary, based on your ovulation test results and the timing of your intercourse, there is a possibility of pregnancy. However, for the best chances in the future, focus on timing intercourse during your fertile window and consider consulting a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
