Dark brown discharge after sexual intercourse?

Hello, doctor.
Here are the details of my recent menstrual cycles (each lasting 7 days): from June 20 to July 19 (30 days), from July 20 to August 19 (31 days) (I had sexual intercourse on August 18, using a condom, but it was only worn for 2/3 of the time), from August 20 to September 22 (34 days), from September 23 to October 26 (expected to end on the 26th) (I had protected intercourse on October 3).
On October 7, I had a fever, which subsided that night.
Starting from October 8, I have been experiencing a small amount of dark brown discharge.
I would like to know if the discharge could be due to the fever, or if it might be a case of false menstruation? What are the chances of pregnancy from the two instances of sexual intercourse? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions amidst your busy schedule.
Thank you.

Hello, it could be ovulatory bleeding; just observe it.
It's safer to use preventive measures at all times.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding dark brown discharge after sexual activity can be a source of concern for many individuals. Based on the information you've provided, there are several factors to consider regarding the potential causes of this discharge, particularly in the context of your recent sexual activity and health history.

Firstly, the appearance of dark brown discharge can often be attributed to old blood. This can occur at various points in the menstrual cycle, particularly at the beginning or end of a period. The discharge you are experiencing could be remnants of menstrual blood that is taking longer to exit the body, which can sometimes appear darker in color. Given that you mentioned your menstrual cycle typically lasts about seven days, it’s possible that the discharge you are observing is related to the end of your cycle.

Another important factor to consider is the timing of your sexual activity. You indicated that you had sexual intercourse on August 18, and if this was close to the time of your expected period, the dark discharge could be related to your menstrual cycle rather than a sign of pregnancy. However, since you mentioned that the condom was only partially used, there is a slight risk of pregnancy if any semen was released during intercourse.
Regarding your question about whether the discharge could be related to your recent fever, it’s worth noting that systemic illnesses, including infections, can sometimes affect menstrual cycles and discharge. If the fever was due to an infection, it could potentially lead to changes in your discharge. However, fever alone is not a common cause of dark brown discharge.

As for the possibility of "false menstruation," this term typically refers to spotting that can occur due to hormonal fluctuations, which can be influenced by stress, illness, or changes in routine. If you are experiencing this discharge outside of your regular menstrual cycle, it could be a sign of hormonal changes rather than a true menstrual period.

In terms of the likelihood of pregnancy, if you had unprotected intercourse (even with a condom that was not fully in place), there is a possibility of pregnancy, albeit lower than if no protection was used at all. If you are concerned about the possibility of being pregnant, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test after a missed period for the most accurate results.

In conclusion, the dark brown discharge you are experiencing could be due to several factors, including remnants of menstrual blood, hormonal changes, or potentially related to your recent fever. If the discharge persists, changes in color or odor, or if you experience any discomfort, it would be prudent to consult with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They can provide personalized advice and conduct any necessary tests to rule out infections or other underlying conditions. Remember, open communication with your healthcare provider is key to addressing any concerns you may have regarding your reproductive health.
