Red rash on the penile mucosa?
On October 12, I suddenly noticed red rashes on the mucous membranes, and I have been experiencing persistent pain in the urethra (but urine tests have come back normal five times).
Due to health anxiety, I frequently examine my penis, sometimes up to 10-20 times a day.
Could it be that my penis is injured? I have also considered the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection (STI), but I tested negative for HPV on October 5 and had a syphilis blood test on October 4, which were both negative.
I would like to ask the doctor if there could be other STIs involved.
Regarding my sexual activities, I have only engaged in manual stimulation with men, and oral sex was 6 to 8 months ago, with a total of no more than five sexual encounters.
Thank you for your assistance, doctor.

If there is no direct sexual contact, the transmission risk is low.
It is recommended to seek medical attention for local pharmacological treatment.

When it comes to understanding a red rash on the penis, there are several potential causes and concerns that should be addressed. Based on the symptoms you've described, including the sudden appearance of red spots on the mucosa and persistent pain in the urethra, it is essential to consider both physical and possible infectious factors.
Firstly, the red rash could be a result of irritation or injury. Given that you mentioned frequently examining your penis, it is possible that the repeated handling could lead to friction or trauma, resulting in a rash or redness. This type of irritation is not uncommon, especially if there is excessive rubbing or pressure applied to sensitive areas. It is important to allow the area to heal by minimizing manipulation and ensuring proper hygiene.
In addition to irritation, the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) should not be overlooked, even though your recent tests for HPV and syphilis were negative. Other STIs, such as herpes or gonorrhea, can present with similar symptoms, including redness, rash, and urethral pain. If you have engaged in sexual activities, even if infrequently, it is advisable to consider further testing for other STIs, especially if symptoms persist or worsen.
Another potential cause of the rash could be a dermatological condition, such as contact dermatitis, which can occur due to an allergic reaction to soaps, lotions, or other products that come into contact with the genital area. Conditions like balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans penis, can also lead to redness and discomfort. This condition can be caused by poor hygiene, infections, or irritants.
To address your concerns effectively, here are some recommendations:
1. Avoid Irritation: Minimize handling of the area to allow any potential irritation to heal. Avoid tight clothing and opt for breathable fabrics to reduce friction.
2. Maintain Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry. Use mild, unscented soap and avoid any harsh chemicals or products that could exacerbate irritation.
3. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the rash or pain. If the redness persists for more than a few days or worsens, it is crucial to seek medical attention.
4. Consult a Specialist: If symptoms continue, consider visiting a urologist or dermatologist for a thorough examination. They may recommend additional tests or treatments based on their findings.
5. Consider STI Testing: Given your sexual history, it may be prudent to undergo further STI testing to rule out any infections that could be causing your symptoms.
In conclusion, while the red rash on the penis could be due to irritation from frequent handling, it is essential to consider other potential causes, including STIs and dermatological conditions. Seeking professional medical advice will provide clarity and appropriate treatment options tailored to your specific situation. Remember, early intervention is key to managing any health concerns effectively.
