Issues related to tongue color?

Hello Doctor, this morning when I woke up, I noticed that one side of my tongue had a slightly dark purplish color, resembling a bruise, and I felt like I was about to get a sore.
I also felt a bit of internal heat, and this seems to happen sometimes after masturbation.
It usually alleviates after sweating, and the color of my tongue is also affected.
I would like to ask if this is normal, whether I need to see a doctor, or if my body is just telling me to control the frequency and not indulge too much, and to rest more.
Thank you for your response!

Dr. Lü Bingcheng reply Traditional Chinese Medicine

1.
A dark purple tongue often indicates poor blood circulation, which can be alleviated by exercise that promotes blood flow.

2.
The sensation of body heat and mouth ulcers in young individuals is usually due to a constitution that tends to be heat-prone; this can be relieved after exercise as heat is expelled through sweating.

3.
Maintaining a proper and consistent exercise routine, along with avoiding erotic content, can help reduce the urge for masturbation.

4.
If there are any related concerns, feel free to consult a qualified traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for diagnosis and treatment.

The changes in tongue color can often provide valuable insights into a person's overall health. In your case, the observation of a dark purple or bruised appearance on the side of your tongue, along with a sensation of heat in your body, may indicate several potential issues that warrant further investigation.

Firstly, the color of the tongue can be influenced by various factors, including hydration levels, diet, and underlying health conditions. A purple or bluish tint can sometimes suggest poor circulation or oxygenation in the blood, which may be due to a variety of reasons such as dehydration, anxiety, or even certain cardiovascular issues. The sensation of heat you mentioned could also be related to inflammation or an increase in metabolic activity, which might occur after physical exertion or stress.

It's important to consider your overall lifestyle and habits. You mentioned that this condition seems to occur after masturbation, which could suggest that physical exertion or the body's response to sexual activity might be contributing to these symptoms. Engaging in sexual activity can sometimes lead to temporary changes in blood flow and circulation, which might explain the color change in your tongue. However, if you notice that these symptoms persist or worsen, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional.

In terms of oral health, the appearance of the tongue can also be affected by factors such as oral hygiene, diet, and the presence of infections or irritations. If you have been consuming foods that are highly pigmented or if you have been experiencing any oral lesions or sores, these could also contribute to changes in tongue color. Maintaining good oral hygiene by brushing your tongue gently and rinsing your mouth regularly can help mitigate some of these issues.

If you are experiencing discomfort or if the discoloration does not resolve with improved hydration and rest, it would be advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination and may recommend tests to rule out any underlying conditions that could be contributing to your symptoms.
In summary, while occasional changes in tongue color can be normal and may not always indicate a serious problem, persistent or concerning symptoms should not be ignored. It is essential to listen to your body and seek medical advice if you feel that something is amiss. Additionally, consider moderating activities that may lead to physical strain or discomfort, and ensure that you are maintaining a balanced lifestyle that includes adequate hydration, nutrition, and rest.
