Can I go to the hospital for a diagnosis certificate after a head injury?

I'm sorry, I would like to ask Dr.
Chang.
My mother was in a car accident last November, where she hit her head and lost consciousness.
At that time, her Glasgow Coma Scale score was 8, indicating severe coma, and she suffered from subdural hematoma and subarachnoid hemorrhage, among other injuries.
The doctors said they couldn't predict what kind of sequelae she might have.
Currently, the left side of her body, including her left arm and leg, has no strength.
Since waking up and undergoing rehabilitation, she has gradually become more self-sufficient, although her movements are slow.
However, she often experiences episodes of confusion, memory decline, lack of concentration, and distraction.
Her vision is normal, but she has difficulty seeing on the far left side with her left eye.
Additionally, her personality has changed, and her balance is sometimes poor.
Are these considered sequelae? Is there no chance of recovery? What is the likelihood of recovery? I would also like to ask if, due to the compensation related to the accident, we can go to the hospital for a doctor to assess my mother and write a diagnosis to determine if she will be unable to ride a motorcycle to work in the future (as she used to commute by motorcycle).
This is related to the compensation, and I am unsure if we can request a medical evaluation and diagnosis from the hospital to confirm her condition and indicate that she will not be able to return to the workforce.
Thank you.

Dr. Zhang Junwei reply Neurosurgery

You can ask the physician who originally treated you to issue a medical certificate.
Whether the sequelae can recover depends on the patient's clinical condition.

In the context of your inquiry regarding obtaining a medical certificate for head injury after an accident, it is essential to understand the complexities surrounding post-traumatic symptoms and the documentation of such conditions. Based on the details provided, it appears that your mother experienced a significant head injury, which has led to various neurological symptoms and functional impairments.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that head injuries, especially those involving loss of consciousness and intracranial bleeding, can result in a range of long-term effects. These may include cognitive deficits, motor impairments, and changes in personality or behavior. The symptoms you described, such as memory loss, attention deficits, and physical weakness, are indeed consistent with potential post-concussion syndrome or other forms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) sequelae.

Regarding the issuance of a medical certificate, it is within the physician's purview to assess the patient's condition and determine whether the symptoms are indeed related to the previous head injury. A medical certificate can serve as an official document that outlines the patient's current health status, including any limitations in their ability to perform daily activities or return to work. This documentation can be crucial for insurance claims or legal matters related to the accident.

To obtain a medical certificate, you should schedule an appointment with a neurologist or a physician specializing in brain injuries. During this consultation, the physician will conduct a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, neurological assessments, and possibly imaging studies if deemed necessary. The physician will then be able to provide a detailed report on your mother's condition, including any diagnosed post-traumatic symptoms and their potential impact on her ability to work.

It is also important to discuss the prognosis with the physician. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury can vary widely among individuals, depending on factors such as the severity of the injury, the patient's age, and their overall health. Some individuals may experience significant improvement over time, while others may have persistent symptoms that require ongoing management and rehabilitation.

In terms of legal and insurance implications, having a comprehensive medical report can support claims for compensation related to the accident. It is advisable to communicate openly with the physician about the need for documentation that addresses your mother's ability to return to work, as well as any recommendations for rehabilitation or ongoing care.

In summary, obtaining a medical certificate for head injury after an accident is possible and can be facilitated by a thorough evaluation from a qualified physician. This documentation is not only important for medical and rehabilitation purposes but also plays a critical role in addressing any legal or insurance-related matters stemming from the accident. It is essential to advocate for your mother's health and well-being, ensuring she receives the appropriate care and support during her recovery journey.
