Menstrual issues, dizziness?
Hello, doctor.
I have two questions:
1.
I have been using a period tracking app, and it shows that my menstruation is 9 days late.
I did not have my period in July, and when I visited a gynecologist, the doctor said it might be due to my lifestyle or emotional state, so no medication was prescribed.
My period suddenly returned in mid-August, and since then, it has been regular.
However, now it has suddenly stopped again, which makes me a bit worried (I have never engaged in sexual intercourse).
2.
About a month ago, I experienced dizziness, nausea, and a rapid heartbeat.
After seeing a doctor, I was told that I had some excess gas in my gastrointestinal tract, and after taking medication for bloating, I felt much better.
I also underwent blood tests, an electrocardiogram, and X-rays, all of which showed no issues (the doctor mentioned that my discomfort might also be related to lifestyle or emotional factors).
Recently, I have experienced occasional dizziness again, but it lasts only a few seconds or minutes, and it seems to occur more when I am sitting.
When I stand up and walk around, I feel much better.
For instance, yesterday I worked for 9 hours standing and did not feel dizzy at all, but on my days off, I experience dizziness once or twice a day.
I do not exercise regularly.
Could this be related? Or is it really just due to my emotional state or lifestyle? I don’t feel like I am under significant stress, and my mood is generally fine, but my physical discomfort is concerning and troubling.
I would like to ask the doctor what might be causing this.
Thank you.

Hello Cocoa: There are many factors that can affect the menstrual cycle.
Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing recent cycle irregularities, which are often caused by lifestyle changes or stress.
However, you mentioned that you haven't been under much stress lately, so a detailed medical history is needed to identify the cause.
Additionally, regarding the symptoms you mentioned—dizziness, nausea, and rapid heartbeat—you may want to visit a nearby Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic.
These symptoms are generally treatable, and with proper medication and regular exercise as advised by your physician, you should see improvement quickly.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

More Info
Your concerns regarding menstrual irregularities and episodes of dizziness are quite valid and warrant a thorough understanding. Let's break down your two main issues.
Menstrual Irregularities
Firstly, regarding your menstrual cycle, it is not uncommon for women to experience irregularities due to various factors, including stress, lifestyle changes, hormonal fluctuations, and underlying health conditions. The fact that your menstrual cycle was regular after a previous irregularity in July, and now you are experiencing a delay of nine days, could be attributed to several factors:
1. Stress and Lifestyle: Emotional stress, changes in routine, or significant life events can impact your hormonal balance, leading to delayed or missed periods. Even if you feel that you are not under significant stress, subtle changes in your daily life can affect your body.
2. Hormonal Imbalances: Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders can lead to irregular menstrual cycles. If this pattern continues, it may be worth discussing further testing with your healthcare provider.
3. Diet and Exercise: Changes in diet, weight fluctuations, or lack of physical activity can also influence your menstrual cycle. Regular exercise can help regulate your cycle and improve overall health.
Since you mentioned that you have not engaged in sexual activity, pregnancy is not a concern. However, if your period does not return or if you experience other symptoms, it would be prudent to consult with a gynecologist for further evaluation.
Dizziness and Gastrointestinal Symptoms
Your second concern about dizziness, nausea, and increased heart rate could be related to several factors, including gastrointestinal issues, dehydration, or even anxiety. Here are some considerations:
1. Gastrointestinal Disturbances: The symptoms you experienced, such as increased air in the gastrointestinal tract, could lead to discomfort and dizziness. Bloating can sometimes cause pressure on the diaphragm, which may lead to feelings of dizziness or lightheadedness.
2. Postural Changes: The fact that you feel dizzy when sitting but better when standing suggests that it could be related to postural hypotension, where blood pressure drops upon standing. This can be exacerbated by dehydration or prolonged sitting.
3. Anxiety and Stress: Even if you do not feel particularly stressed, anxiety can manifest physically. The body’s response to perceived stress can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, increased heart rate, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
4. Lack of Physical Activity: You mentioned that you do not exercise regularly. Regular physical activity can improve circulation and overall cardiovascular health, which may help alleviate some of your symptoms.
Recommendations
1. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a detailed record of your menstrual cycle, any associated symptoms, and episodes of dizziness. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.
2. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given the combination of menstrual irregularities and dizziness, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider who can perform a comprehensive evaluation. This may include blood tests to check hormone levels, thyroid function, and possibly imaging studies if gastrointestinal issues persist.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Consider incorporating regular physical activity into your routine, maintaining a balanced diet, and ensuring adequate hydration. These changes can positively impact both your menstrual cycle and overall well-being.
4. Stress Management: Engage in stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, or deep-breathing exercises, which can help improve both your mental and physical health.
In conclusion, while your symptoms may be related to lifestyle factors, it is essential to seek medical advice to rule out any underlying conditions. Your health is paramount, and addressing these concerns early can lead to better outcomes.
