There are many red spots on the legs?
I recently noticed many small red spots on the inner sides of both my legs, each about 0.1 centimeters in size.
They are not painful or itchy, and there is no raised feeling; it seems like they are beneath the skin.
There are over 100 spots on my left leg and about 20 to 30 on my right leg, and this has been consistent throughout the year.

More Info
The appearance of red dots on the inner thighs, especially when they are small (around 0.1 cm), non-painful, non-itchy, and seemingly embedded within the skin, can be concerning. However, there are several potential causes for such symptoms, and understanding them can help in determining the appropriate course of action.
Possible Causes
1. Petechiae: These are small, pinpoint red or purple spots that can appear on the skin due to bleeding under the skin. They are often caused by minor trauma, certain medical conditions, or even prolonged pressure. Since you mentioned that these dots have been present year-round and are not associated with pain or itching, it may be less likely that they are petechiae caused by acute trauma.
2. Allergic Reactions: Sometimes, skin reactions can occur due to allergens in the environment or products applied to the skin. If you have recently changed soaps, lotions, or laundry detergents, this could be a potential cause.
3. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that can cause small red bumps. It can occur due to bacterial or fungal infections, irritation from shaving, or blockage of the follicles.
4. Keratosis Pilaris: This is a common, harmless condition that results in small, red or white bumps, often on the thighs and upper arms. It occurs when keratin (a protein in the skin) clogs hair follicles.
5. Vascular Conditions: Conditions affecting blood vessels, such as vasculitis, can lead to red spots on the skin. These are usually accompanied by other symptoms, so if you have no other symptoms, this may be less likely.
6. Dermatological Conditions: Conditions like eczema or psoriasis can also manifest as red spots or patches on the skin. However, these typically come with other symptoms like itching or scaling.
Recommended Actions
1. Observation: Since the dots are not painful, itchy, or causing any discomfort, it may be prudent to monitor them for any changes. If they start to increase in number, change in appearance, or become symptomatic, it would be wise to seek medical attention.
2. Consult a Dermatologist: If the condition persists or worsens, a visit to a dermatologist would be beneficial. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend tests such as a skin biopsy or blood tests to determine the underlying cause.
3. Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that the red dots could be due to an allergic reaction or irritation, consider switching to hypoallergenic products and avoiding known irritants.
4. Maintain Skin Hygiene: Keeping the skin clean and moisturized can help prevent conditions like folliculitis or keratosis pilaris from worsening.
5. Healthy Lifestyle: A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can support skin health. Ensure adequate hydration and consider supplements if you suspect nutritional deficiencies.
Conclusion
While the presence of numerous small red dots on your legs can be alarming, many benign conditions could explain this symptom. It is essential to observe any changes and consult a healthcare professional if necessary. A dermatologist can provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment options based on a thorough examination. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, so don’t hesitate to seek help if you have concerns about your skin health.
