Prostate? Bleeding?

Hello Doctor, I apologize for asking question number #163668 earlier today, but I have a new development, so I'm sending another question.
I'm very sorry! My girlfriend purchased a sex toy that is inserted into my anus to stimulate the prostate.
It's not much larger than a straw, and she inserted it about a finger's length, with some twisting motion.
When it was removed, I noticed bright red blood on it.
Later, I found that there was not only blood but also a viscous substance and a tiny piece that looked like skin from the fingertip.
When I inserted my finger, I felt a somewhat spherical mass, and upon withdrawal, I indeed noticed blood, but I'm not sure if it came from that mass.
I just rinsed the inside of my anus with clean water.
Should I seek medical attention immediately, or can I take anti-inflammatory medication and wait a few hours to see if the bleeding continues before going to the doctor? I noticed that the front end of the sex toy is not smooth but has a slight groove in the middle, with flat edges.
Currently, I do not have any significant pain or discomfort.
I apologize for bothering you, and thank you!

Niming, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2020/12/16

Dr. Li Minghui reply Urology

Some blood streaks are likely due to rectal mucosal abrasion.
It is generally acceptable to leave it alone, and there is no need for anti-inflammatory medication.
The risk of persistent bleeding or infection is minimal, similar to how blood streaks can occur occasionally with constipation.
Unless there is continuous heavy bleeding, fever with chills, or severe pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis, it indicates a more serious issue that requires immediate medical attention.
The round mass is likely the prostate, which is located in front of the rectum.
As long as there is no significant tearing, pain, or heavy bleeding felt in the rectal mucosa during examination, there should not be any major concerns.

When it comes to prostate stimulation and the potential for rectal bleeding, it's important to approach the situation with caution. Based on your description, it sounds like there was some trauma to the rectal area, which could have resulted in bleeding. The presence of bright red blood on the toy and the mention of a small piece of tissue could indicate a few different things, including minor abrasions or tears in the rectal lining.

First and foremost, if you notice any bleeding, especially bright red blood, it is advisable to seek medical attention. While minor bleeding can sometimes resolve on its own, it is crucial to rule out any significant injury or underlying condition. The fact that you mentioned the absence of pain or discomfort is a positive sign, but it does not eliminate the need for a medical evaluation. Rectal bleeding can sometimes be a sign of more serious issues, such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or even more severe conditions like rectal tears or infections.

In terms of immediate actions, it is not recommended to self-medicate with anti-inflammatory drugs without consulting a healthcare professional first. While over-the-counter medications may help alleviate discomfort, they do not address the underlying cause of the bleeding. If the bleeding persists or worsens, or if you experience any new symptoms such as increased pain, fever, or changes in bowel habits, you should seek medical attention promptly.

Additionally, it is essential to consider the design of the toy used for prostate stimulation. Toys that are not specifically designed for anal use can pose risks, especially if they lack a flared base or are not made from body-safe materials. The shape and texture of the toy can contribute to the risk of injury during use. If you or your partner decide to continue exploring prostate stimulation, it is advisable to use products specifically designed for that purpose, ensuring they are safe and appropriate for anal use.

In summary, while it may be tempting to wait and see if the bleeding resolves on its own, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to rectal bleeding. Seeking medical advice will provide you with peace of mind and ensure that any potential injuries are properly assessed and treated. Remember, your health and safety should always come first.
