Urethral meatus swelling

Hello, Director.
Thank you again for your previous response.
I recently noticed some swelling at the urethral opening and have engaged in unsafe sexual behavior (unprotected oral sex).
It seems abnormal, so I went to the hospital for a check-up.
The doctor did not provide a detailed explanation, but I do not have any other physical symptoms or discomfort, so I am asking here.
I only have phimosis-related balanitis at the moment and have been keeping the glans dry and ventilated while wearing loose-fitting boxers.
Thank you for your detailed response.

Urethral swelling can be a concerning symptom, especially when accompanied by a history of unprotected sexual activity. In your case, the swelling at the urethral opening, combined with your previous experiences of discomfort and the presence of phimosis (tight foreskin), raises several important considerations.

Firstly, the urethra is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body, and any swelling or irritation in this area can be indicative of an underlying issue. Common causes of urethral swelling include infections (such as urethritis), inflammation, or trauma. Given your history of unprotected oral sex, it is essential to consider sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as potential culprits. Infections like gonorrhea and chlamydia can lead to urethral swelling and discomfort, even if you do not currently experience significant pain or other symptoms.

Phimosis, or the inability to retract the foreskin fully, can also contribute to irritation and inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and the urethra. This condition can lead to a buildup of smegma (a combination of dead skin cells and oils) under the foreskin, which can cause irritation and swelling. Maintaining proper hygiene, as you mentioned, is crucial in managing this condition. Keeping the area dry and well-ventilated can help reduce the risk of infection and irritation.

In your situation, it is advisable to seek further evaluation from a urologist, especially since you have noted swelling at the urethral opening. A thorough examination can help determine if there is an infection present or if the swelling is related to phimosis or another condition. Diagnostic tests, such as a urinalysis or urethral swab, may be necessary to identify any infections or abnormalities.

If an infection is diagnosed, appropriate treatment with antibiotics will be essential. Additionally, if phimosis is contributing to your symptoms, discussing potential treatment options with your urologist is important. In some cases, circumcision or other surgical interventions may be recommended to alleviate the condition.

It is also worth noting that while you may not currently experience significant discomfort, it is important to monitor any changes in symptoms. If you notice increased pain, discharge, or other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention promptly. Early intervention can help prevent complications and ensure a more favorable outcome.

In summary, urethral swelling can arise from various causes, including infections and anatomical issues like phimosis. Given your history of unprotected sexual activity and the current symptoms, a comprehensive evaluation by a healthcare professional is warranted. Maintaining good hygiene practices and being vigilant about any changes in your symptoms will be key in managing your health moving forward.

Hello: There should not be a fissure issue; the urethral opening is naturally a slit when not urinating. Redness, swelling, and pain may indicate localized skin inflammation or urethritis. If symptoms persist, it is advisable to seek medical attention. Wishing you good health.
