Increased discharge after intercourse?

Hello, doctor.
Yesterday, on January 11th, I had unprotected intercourse and ejaculation occurred inside.
Afterward, I went to the bathroom and noticed three drops of a clear yellowish secretion.
Later that night, I went to the bathroom again and wiped a stringy secretion that resembled mucus, which could stretch about 3-5 centimeters.
I would like to know if these secretions are a result of the ejaculation or if they are related to my ovulation period.
My menstrual period just ended three days ago, and my period tracking app predicts that I will ovulate in two days.
Is there a possibility of pregnancy in this situation? Should I take emergency contraception? I apologize for asking so many questions, and I appreciate your patience in reading this.
Thank you, doctor.

Hello, it may be related to ejaculation.
It's best to take emergency contraception just in case.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding increased discharge after unprotected intercourse can be a concern for many individuals, especially when it comes to the possibility of pregnancy and the implications of sexual health. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a combination of post-coital discharge and what may be related to your menstrual cycle.

Firstly, the clear yellowish discharge you observed after unprotected intercourse could be attributed to several factors. After ejaculation, it's common for some of the seminal fluid to leak out of the vagina. This is a normal physiological response and does not necessarily indicate any health issues. The consistency of the discharge you described, particularly the stretchy, mucus-like quality, is often associated with cervical mucus changes that occur during the menstrual cycle, especially around ovulation.
Given that you mentioned your menstrual period just ended three days ago and that your app predicts ovulation in two days, it's plausible that the discharge is related to your body's natural hormonal fluctuations. Around ovulation, cervical mucus typically becomes more abundant, clear, and stretchy, resembling egg whites, which aids sperm mobility and viability.

Regarding the possibility of pregnancy, if you had unprotected intercourse and ejaculation occurred inside the vagina, there is a risk of pregnancy, especially if you are approaching your ovulation window. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, so if ovulation occurs shortly after intercourse, there is a chance of fertilization.

As for whether you need to take emergency contraception (commonly referred to as the "morning-after pill"), it depends on your personal circumstances and how much time has passed since the unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraception is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex, ideally within 72 hours, but some options can be effective up to five days later. If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy and it has been within that time frame, it may be wise to consider taking emergency contraception.

In summary, the discharge you are experiencing is likely a combination of normal post-coital leakage and cervical mucus changes related to your menstrual cycle. However, given the unprotected nature of the intercourse, there is a risk of pregnancy, and considering emergency contraception could be a prudent step if you are concerned. It is always advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice and to discuss any further concerns regarding your reproductive health. Regular check-ups and open communication with your healthcare provider can help you navigate these situations more effectively.
